I think the opposite. They are just a "whimpy" looking. The pettit ones look very mean i think. I would go with the pettit rear and wise fronts maybe.

Hello,

The car is now at Pettit Racing awaiting the conversion. I took it down on Saturday and spent the afternoon with Cam, the owner. He took me to the track in his 3 rotor - quite the awesome car. At 6 lbs. of boost, the car does 375 hp to the wheels and has about 365 lbs. of torque. Cam claims it's the torque in the 3 rotors that makes the car special. I like the HP gains and the torque! Anyway, at 12 lbs. of boost, the car should easily reach 400 hp to the wheels.

I have several pics of Cam's car that I'll post soon.

I'm now in the planning stages for the conversion. Here's the laundry list as of today. Feel free to comment and suggest!

- 20B 3 rotor swap
- includes subframe
- huge customer front mounted intercooler
- NASCAR hi-flow radiator
- twin Cosmo turbos, reworked by Pettit and ceramic coated (will think about going single later)
- engine management system (brand to be determined by Cam)
- new wiring
- probably a bunch of other "under the hood" stuff I'm forgetting now

- back wheel flares molded into the car
- 18X9's and 18X12.5's probably Forgeline WC3's in silver (not polished) unless someone has a better idea.
- Track pro launch kit (street)
- coil overs (if needed)
- front anti-sway bar
- Track pro street differential mounts (if needed)
- big brake kit

- Pettit resonator mid-section
- Racing Beat dual tip exhaust

- brake ducts installed on my Pettit 99 spec front bumper to blend the front end in better
- Apexi side skirts
- 99 spec front lip painted gloss black to match 99 spec front end

Will update you soon!
holy sh*t!

you'll put much more than 400 hp with 12 psi... hell 6 psi is good for 375 rwph.

You should go ahead nad have the 6 speed tranny put in too. Then you don't have to deal with the crappy stock tranny.

The Cosmo 20B made approximately 300-320 flywheel horsepower (officially rated at 280 ps, the Japanese limit) @ 10 psi. How do you get 375 RWHP from only 6 psi?

you get 375 because the motor is ported, you have a free flow exhaust, re-worked turbos, free flowing intake, bigger intercooler and a programable ecu

Not at only 6 psi, you don't. Having an extra rotor doesn't allow you to violate the laws of Physics.

Let's get real for a moment. A ported 13B with all the mods you mention and 10 psi might make 285-290 RWHP, yet a 20B will make another 80+ horsepower at the wheels with 4 lbs. less boost?

The 20B is, without a doubt, one of the most over-hyped engines in history.

Well.....if you take 285 and add 50% for the 3rd rotor you'd get 427rwhp. Then if you take 40rwhp off for the 4psi less boost you'd have 387rwhp.

Sounds about right to me

I know of large single turbo 20B's making around 600rwhp on 93 octane.....I wouldnt call that over-hyped at all

Wait a minute. What time did the train leave Chicago again? Unfortunately, you can't make a linear correlation based on the percentage of the increase in displacement.

A stock 20B makes 300-320 flywheel horsepower @ 10 psi. So you're saying that it's reasonable that at only 6 psi, it will make ~440 horsepower (375 RWHP with 15% losses) because you added porting, a bigger intercooler and opened up the exhaust and intake? Do you know how absolutely ridiculous that is?

I know of large single turbo 20B's making around 600rwhp on 93 octane.....
And how much boost were they running? I've yet to hear of one making that kind of power on pump gas. Please be so kind as to point me towards a dyno sheet or two.

I'm so jealous of your ability to afford this project, someday I'll be able to do the same, but damn, I was happy to be looking towards 300rwhp.

Instead of trying to guess and fight over how much power hes going to make, why not just wait and see? You guys worry to much about other peoples cars. Let him post a damn dyno sheet instead of trying to guess.

Jim~Are you saying its impossible to get 600whp on a 20b? I dont see that being a problem at all. Haven't you seen when the guys in japan made little over 700whp on the 2 rotor with that huge turbo? So why can't someone put a huge turbo and big ports and make over 600whp? It's all about the tuning, and I'm pretty sure pettit knows little about tuning. I think your to caught up in the v8 world downing the rotors.

All I have to say is lets wait and see.

Just food for thought, I believe the RE Amemiya JGTC car is running a little over 300 with the 20B in N/A. Granted, it's a racing motor....

Wow,

Didn't know that I would create this much controversy with my post.

The Pettit conversion leave very little as stock. The engine is totally reworked, doweled, and ported. The intercooler is changed, and Pettit uses and tunes and aftermarket ECU. Pettit's "stock" turbos are also totally reworked including ceramic coating. So, the Pettit 20B will be no stock Cosmo engine.

Pettit claims 500 - 550 horsepower from this setup. I guess you can do the math to take this down to RWHP.

The figure I qouted was from Cam and his 20B car. He gave me a ride in it and I checked the boost he was using during the ride (between 6-7 lbs.). Cam stated the RWHP figure I wrote about.

It's all pretty irrelevent though. I'm a big dyno guy - this is the only way to really know horsepower and torque. I'll definately post these so you can see what the true numbers are.

FYI - What I am shooting for is not the highest amount of horsepower I can make, it's the highest amount of "reliable" horsepower. I'd be very happy with 375 to the wheels and it be reliable.
