I just wanted to start a log to keep track of all the things I've done to my car and all the people who have contributed before I get too far along and start forgetting things.

I never planned on owning an FD, it just kind of happened. When I came across this car it had been sitting next to a barn for 5 years, was filthy and wouldn't start. The front lip was tore up from a trailer accident trying to escape the flood in Minot, ND. The glove box handle was missing, drivers seat is ripped, stereo was missing, floor mats were shot, shift **** was ripped, and the secondary turbo didn't come on when I got it running. All in all not too bad, 107k miles and super faded VR paint. I couldn't argue with the price. Here is what the car looked like when I first picked it up

When I finally got it started, I went to Jiffy Lube, got the oil changed and drove it 500 miles home. When I got the car home the first thing I did was replace the fuel filter, trans and diff fluid with Lucas synthetic 75w90, flushed coolant, ordered some Viton check valves from DaleClark and some black silicone from boostcontroller.com for the simplified sequential conversion. Found a bunch of broken vac lines and check valves plus a broken nipple on the pressure chamber. Luckily gdub29e had a nice press. chamber for sale in the classified section. Here it is in my friends garage next to his procharged cobra.

Then the cleaning began. The PO must have had a big system in there because there was this huge shitty power cable running through the engine bay which ran through the fender. When it was installed they screwed up the driver side fender and put it back on with double side tape. The fender vent later fell off and got ran over. No worries, I just went to the classified section and got a nice mint VR one from GToRx7! Got everything cleaned up, fixed the glove box handle and map pocket lid. I also picked up some decent floor mats from foxrace4. A pic of the cleaning process and all the cables I ripped out.

Over the course of the winter I installed installed a radio and din mounted pro sport gauges. I picked them because they match the stock gauges pretty well. I want to set them up so they are white when the headlights are off and orange when headlights are on, I just need to figure out which wire to tap for the headlight switch

Put on a downpipe from SLow2k and Apexi intake from Shinrars2

fresh coat of paint on the intake

I spent most of the winter cleaning, polishing, rubbing, and waxing over and over again. I plasti dipped the rims the PO had on there (luckily the car came with a set of stockers too). 4x4 mode

Over the course of the summer I put the stock rims on the car, lowered it with tein springs from DuGuder and plasti dipped the rims, side mirrors, and windshield washer nozzles (paint was too far gone to bring back) also replaced the sunroof panel with one from tomsn16 since mine had a huge dent in it plus oxidized paint.

I enjoyed the fruits of my labor at Brainerd International Raceway for powercruise. I borrowed my buddies NT05's for the weekend since his cobra was down for a rebuild

tried my hand at some off street drags, this was my best pass. lost though haha. I have some other videos on my youtube channel too. I was having some boost issues out on the track, I started at 10 psi on Friday and was down to 4 psi by sunday. found this when I got home

So this is pretty much where I'm at currently. I have a bunch of parts waiting to go on once I get home, I don't think I can remember everything I have ordered, it's kind of like a surprise every time I come home. One of the main things will be air pump/cat delete with a mid pipe from Fritz Flynn, and an idler pulley from Pineapple racing. Also, a tune if possible to make sure everything is safe with the midpipe. Then I will be going back to BIR for MAP proving grounds.

I'm open to any suggestions/criticism

No I haven't, do you think I'll run into boost issues with the midpipe? It still has stock cat back if that helps at all.

Oh I forgot to mention, the PO had plans for an ls swap...another one saved boys!

You will definitely run into boost issues with an intake, dp, and midpipe, even with the stock exhaust and intercooler. Don't put the midpipe on till you can control boost. Hope this helps.

Yea it helps a lot. I appreciate the help. I have two Hallman pro rx mbc's hooked up right now. These won't control the mp? If not, I guess it will be time for a wg port

The boost controllers control the wastegate whether electric or manual. If the wastegate can't flow enough air out into the exhaust, it will go in your motor because it has no where else to go.

Yea that makes sense. I'll just have to hold off on the midpipe then. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of taking my turbos off to port the wg when I'll be buying upgraded twins in the future. And the BNR twins come ported already iirc?

This is a good example of why I wanted to start this thread. I probably read that information on here at some point in time and forgot about it or can't find it again. Now all the information that is relevant to my build can be in one convenient spot and I can keep track of everyone who has helped along the way. That reminds me, I'm kind of disappointed that I can't edit my first post on here..kind of defeats the purpose of listing members I have bought parts from and having a "wanted" list. Oh well.

The BNR's are definitely ported, they are capable of run 25psi+ I believe so the wastegate is substantially larger than even our ported stockers.

well...I had nothing better to do today, so the turbos came off! They look to be in rough shape. What do you guys think, worth the effort to port wg and put back on?

I picked up some new used twins from forum member Rocking Rotary and ported the wastegate. Now I'm just waiting for some block off plates from banzai to finish off the air pump/cat delete.

Since the turbos are out, the thought has been crossing my mind to just call it quits for the summer, yank the motor out and single turbo it. Get the trans rebuilt while I'm at it since my 5th gear synchro is fried. And hopefully get it back together before the snow melts.

Sometimes I feel like Forrest Gump working on this car. "I ran to the end of the county and figured since I already made it this far, I might as well run across alabama. Once I got there, I decided to just keep running"....you know, take one part off and you see 3 more things you want to fix/change.

As always, I'm open to advice/suggestions

here are some pics of how I did my wastegate port. I couldn't really find any pics when I searched so maybe it can help someone in the future.

wastegate flapper

I just sprayed some paint with the flapper closed

and now I know how much to cut

done using dremel with carbide cutting bit

the turbos still haven't been reinstalled. I have a couple broken bolts where the down pipe hooks up that I haven't found the motivation to battle yet.

I did get some interior stuff done though. Picked up a pfc commander holder and got that installed, very nice fit from banzai. I also stripped off my tan leather and tried my hand at some upholstery. I got these leather seat covers from ebay for $380, I was skeptical, but they fit great and the leather is nice and thick.

not bad for a first time upholsterer? they said it will tighten up even more after it gets some sunlight. we'll see..

Well the turbos are back on and the wastegate port worked out! Im consistently getting between .68 and .71 boost according to my commander with no boost creep even with it being about 50F outside. On to the pics I suppose..

cleaner bay with no air pump.

the seat leather tightened up nicely. interior is almost finished

just need some black carpet and seat plastics, plus a rear divider and hatch cover

There wont be a lot happening to the car until the snow starts coming down, then it will be time for the tranny to come out for a rebuild. 5th gear synchro has been bad since I bought it and I just noticed oil seeping from the rear of the trans when I was installing the midpipe.

I Didn't Post Here Yet!

Hey man!
I didn't even post on here yet. Haven't checked this section in a while because I don't have an FD...yet...

Got to ride in this thing today - she rips! Also we found that the build date is 12/95 which my limited FD knowledge knows is a super late model car. Any info on how many VR Touring 12/95 cars there might be?

Super fun and a dream come true man - I appreciate it!

Seems strange though..even if my car was built on the 1st of December 1995, they had to pump out 113 more cars that month to equal the 500 built that year. Sounds fishy. Hopefully a vin number pro will stop by and shed some light.

Nice start! I am not sure I would have put those turbos back on, there are cracks EVERYWHERE! Start saving for 99 spec turbos or a BNR unit.

And production dates got from 6/94-6/95 and are all considered 1995 vehicles. So really I would think it would be considered a 1996 if its production date is really 12/95.

Hey thanks for stopping by. I know my thread may not be as entertaining as some of the big dogs around here but I'm hoping the cleanliness of my efforts makes up for it a bit.

Just to clarify, I didn't put the super cracked turbos back on. I bought a used set locally and put those on instead. I'll admit they weren't really leaps and bounds better than my old turbos but at least they weren't caked with oil.

The thought crossed my mind to call it quits for the summer and put on some bnr's while the car is garaged for the winter, but boredom and impatience got the best of me. Plus I take pride in the fact that my car is never out of commission for long, if the weather is nice, my car is on the road gauranteed. I'll be back in a bit with a pic of the door sticker for whoever would like to inspect.

man I just realized some of my pictures are super huge. I apologize for that, kind of makes the thread difficult to read. I really don't know how to fix it.

Anyway, here is the pic of the door sticker
