New Product: High Torque 2KW Starter for 93+ RX-7

The High Torque 2KW starter greatly increases the cranking RPM for much faster starting. Perfect for heavily modified engines (20B, 3mm seal, Bridgeport, etc) that are slow to fire up during cranking due to the additional mass or sealing characteristics of aftermarket apex seals. Additionally, engines with low compression or hot start/flooding issues benefit from this starters much faster RPM.

The original FD starter is rated at 1.2KW (1.61HP), the 2KW (2.68HP) is a 40% increase in starter cranking power. Depending on battery CCA and health the cranking speed will increase by as much as 100RPM.

Starters are built from all new parts, with exception to the FD gear housings, which are from core starters. Every starter is tested prior to leaving our facility.

Manual Transmission Only.

Refundable Core Charge once we receive a Manual Trans FD starter, that has an undamaged gear housing (nose).

I would be interested in something like this for the FC, however I'm probably in the minority.

the factory already has a high TQ starter for the FC turbo

simply use the auto ( N327 ) starter in the manual turbo gearbox
.. it is a direct fit and has higher TQ and a longer case than the original N318 starter

if you read between the lines and are handy,, then you will be able to see how you can make your own FD long case starter

without having an rx8 hi tq starter handy , i expect a similar swapsee there too
( all using the same ring gear and starter rotor assembly gear end )

Is that so? So an auto starter will improve the cranking of the motor? I just notice that my rotary cranks over slower than any of my other cars...

Yes, the 86-91 Automatic starter is a direct 2.0 kw replacement for the Turbo II. However you need to verify that it is the 2.0kw versions, since many parts stores list the same part number for the TII & Auto, which can also be a 1.2kw.

The ACDELCO Part # 3361466 specifically states 2.0 kw.

Hi I just installed the benzai racing rx8 starter now my car won't start. I am sure I installed it correctly. I guess I will pull it and place the fd starter back in to see if it will start. any tips?

A starter is a relatively simple and robust piece of automotive equipment. So long as it's ground is good (where it presses against the bell housing) and without grease/oil/whatever, the 12v+ coming from the starter cable is secured on the proper lug and the bolt holding it is snug, and the 12v+ from the starter relay to the starter solenoid is coming in properly then there is no reason it shouldn't work. If all of those things are good then the solenoid is bad or your battery (or its connection at the starter) is very dead. Yes, other things inside a starter can go wrong but they're extremely rare occurrences. Good luck.

You can't install a RX-8 starter in an FD. Nose is the wrong length.

If you bought one of our FD starters, then email sales with your order number

Now that we are in the shop and had a chance to look up your location, we have only shipped one starter to that town, it was back in March. It was not an RX-8 starter, it is the FD.

Every FD starter is bench tested and verified to be fully operational prior to shipping. If the starter is not functioning, then you either have it installed incorrectly (wrong wires) or there is something else wrong with the starting system. You never returned a core to us, so go ahead and install the original starter to start your troubleshooting.

Any further questions contact sales or tech directly.

I meant the upgraded rx8 starter for the fd. I bought it from you guys. I have been busy. It won't turn over. I will put my fd starter in and see if it will start. I installed it correctly. Maybe my starting system is taking a ****. thanks. It did turn over once but every time nothing when I turn the key.

Bump for kick-*** starter. This thing sounded like a formula car on the 3 rotor. Very fast.
