Feedback Control?

I am a mechanical engineering student and just finished controls class this semester. From my understanding all AI systems use feed forward, spray and pray measure boost and ramp up pump speed accordingly, HC's 80-20 system has a map that measures RPM and boost similar to the engine control unit.

Do any systems use feedback, possibly measure EGT's and adjust accordingly? I really enjoyed this class and would like to try a real world controls project.

I know this is kind of a big project and not one to mess up if I value my apex seals, just curious on anyone's thoughts.

If you control AI with a decent ecu rather than a relatively expensive and limited add on box you get almost endless control/feedback measures. You can run flow and pressure sensors in the AI line, differential temp monitoring across injection point, 3d target table and variable PID dependent on conditions, EGT feedback, AFR feedback, knock feedback and control responses from pump power/speed or solenoid PWM to other systems protections like variable boost target, fuel enrichment, ignition/fuel cut until below boost threshold for system fail etc.

I think the cheapest options with massive flexibility (other than writing your own MS code?) are probably Adaptronic e1280s or Motec M1 series ecus (can basically construct all your own logic/tables etc with these). For A student project (unless you have good cash behind you) I'm guessing MS may be your only viable option?

Anything less is not really worth your effort I don't think.

Thank you for the input Slides,

I think you are right with the MS, I want to get a acquisition box and lab view and mess around with some stuff but I don't think that is too practical as a permanent solution.

I will look into the different ecus' I have an AEM kit but I really dont like how basic it is.
