rx7 s3 questions
tl;dr got a rx7 lined up for tomorrow or thursday and need advice, it has low compression, but can be manually started, it can be driven to get compression back up (apparently), oil isnt connected to carby and is running premix fuel.
that, is the new twitch mobile, potentially, i just got off the phone with the owner, he said that it has a) low compression and wont key start, but will pull/clutch or any other form of manual start, b) it just needs to go for a long drive (100-150kms) to get the compression back up to a point where i can start it c) the oil lines arent connected to the carby (they are to the pump and everything else) carby has been clampped/blocked so there is no air bubbles, the brakes and body are in good nick, bit of rust on the body, in the sills where the normal bits are, nothing major or defectable and easily repariable, the owner has let the rego run out, but not expire (woo weird perth rules) and hence does not need a pit report (thank ****) its been bridgeported from a rx4 13b, and finally, he is running pre mix, in a 40 litre tank, at 100mls to a full tank, does that ratio sound right, or should it be increased/decreased, he said something about the oil pump being one that draws oil from the sump (cant remember its name/type lol)
thanks,
twich

sounds dodgy to me
the motor should start A1,, and the only excuse it does not is if it is a fresh rebuild on s/h parts
and generally these may take a few hundred km to bed and start easily
me expects the motor is no good ,, and rx4 housings may be difficult to find now
if this is your first rotor,, avoid ,, go for something that is mild ported or stock

is the car in armadale? is the owner called pete?
if so run for miles ,, that is the best advice i can give you
anything that in not easy starting,, smokes on startup , doesnt idle ,, avoid
if the car is not registered,, and more than $1k , avoid
( the po will not like the fact it has a 74-78 engine and give you a hard time )
if you have to ask these questions of me,, i can already tell you that a not running BP is a hat full or heartache for a newb
take my advice,, go for something that has already had the money spent on it
something that runs and steers without you tipping your whole wallet into it

you should be asking " if it only needs a run in,, then why has not the builder done that already ?"
rebuilds may have used s/h housings and or s/h hard seals
usually these may take a few hundred km to settle down and start easily
if they dont,, then there may be many things wrong
it may have been built with excessive corner to side seal tolerances
it may have been built on bearings past the use by
it may have been built with overheated s/h apex seal springs
it may be built on housings missing significant chrome
the porting may be all ****
( and i have several plates here from other perth builders kept in a shame file )
these things,, you as a purchaser cannot see
but there is also innocent reasons why it is tricky to start,, like worn /faulty ignition switch components and badly tuned carbs
ask the owner what pics he has of the last build,, so you can judge for yourself the level of build

im wary,, if the car itself is in good shape then
then maybe bargain down some and so also grab that import s5 block f/s in perth /mandurah?
that way if it proves to be a pain in the ****
then you can use the sump and timing cover from this engine onto the s5 engine
these engines ( with carb manifold adapters ) can take the old type carb manifolds and usually prove to be good setups
