1992 Mazda 929 13b-REW swap
I was told that this forum might give me some better insight on this than the "other rotary" forum can. Well here it goes, I found a great deal on a nice 1992 Mazda 929 with a bad engine (3.0 L JE-ZE V6). I know they offered the rotary in the HC (86-91) 929. How hard of a swap would it be to drop in a 13B-REW out of a FD into a 1992 929. I would like to keep the auto trans that is in the 929. So what do you guys think it would take? Thanks.

Try asking the same question on www.ausrotary.com or www.perthrotary.com mate and someone there should be able to help you out.
I know there are a few guys kicking around Perth rotary with a few of the older 929's but i've never heard anything about putting a rotor in a newer one....not saying it can't be done though.

I think its a great idea.
I've been toying with the concept of putting a 20B into an HD 929 for some time.
Apart from having to upgrade your fuel and ignition system, you would need engine mounts, maybe bell housing mods (or adapter) computer, exhaust, cooling upgrades etc. etc. etc.
Pretty much the normal things you'd need to do any engine conversion in a car that didn't come out factory with that engine.
If you've got the money (or skills) to do it..... I say do it.

Isn't the 929 more or less a version of the cosmo?
I did know someone who picked up a very nice 929 chassis, perfect paint and body perfect interior, car was run out of oil. He was initially intending to swap in an american V8 but ended up deciding on a mercedes turbo diesel drivetrain after catching a ride in a late model mercedes E320 CDI. I have no idea how far he got with it.
In any case there is plenty of room to put any engine you want into a 929, the obvious answer would be to use an Rx7 engine and trans, with a custom made driveshaft.

I had a really nice mazda 929, I ended up crushing it, nobody here would buy it at any price.
Anyways, a 3 rotor will fit, you'll have to fab mounts or use a cosmo front subframe, which also doesn't bolt up - the stock diff is big and strong but not an ideal ratio, and the car is heavy (3800lb, I know because I sold it for scrap) so don't expect it to be a rocketship.

Hey guys, I know this thread is a little old but I have a question.
I might be buying a 1990 929, what all is needed to swap a 13b into it? I have a motor from a 2nd gen, that I could use. But does it require a different drive shaft or anything else?
also, will the rx7 transmission bolt to the stock 929 motor? If so, new driveshaft required or anything?
Thanks,
Mike
