Anyone use the Walbro 485?

I've read almost all of the threads in the alternative fuel forum and there isn't a whole lot of information on the walbro 485. Both banzairacing (Walbro Pumps) and the FFE website (Walbro 485 Fuel Pump | Full Function Engineering) sell the pump but neither one specifies whether you have to modify your stock pump hanger or any wiring to use this pump. I'm curious to know if any of you guys currently use or have used this pump and what you've had to do to get it to work. If you can just directly replace your pump with this one that would be awesome although it's got a wider base than the walbro 255 (which I currently use) and the factory fuel pump.

Thanks guys,
Anthony

Well it doesn't seem like many of you use this specific pump. I'll try it out and let you fellas know. When I start my build thread I'll also post the pump related stuff here.

I've been running the Walbro 485 for a few months now and it's been feeding my 450hp TII engine with E85 without issue. It's amazingly small for the stated output and certainly is not a plug and play solution. Considering the significant increase in amperage from stock, you're essentially obligated to rewire it anyhow. I used Teflon insulated wire for the short leg to the ethanol compatible connector provided with the pump. Here's a pic of my hanger installation (trial fit).

The fact that you're seeking a drop-in solution is concerning. While others make it sound simple, $ignificant changes are required to convert to E85.

It isn't that I was specifically seeking a drop in solution, it's just that it is obviously easier to have one. I understand the costs involved in converting to E85 and know very well that it isn't cheap.

What my concern is, that even reading through the alternative fuel forums I haven't come across anyone using the 485 (maybe I missed it). No write-ups for the wiring, hanger modifications or installation for that matter. I appreciate the picture that you've included and if anyone else out there has any pictures or a write up I would appreciate it. Thanks guys.

i have one in my fd

to make it fit i had to cut the feed tube and clamp a hose onto it running to the pump. i had to get rid of the bottom holder for the sock to fit the right way and used clamps to secure the pump to the hanger

Just a few posts above yours Howard has quite a comprehensive thread documenting his experience with this pump on E85...

I just got back into the swing of things and now I'm moving all over the place so it's going to be a while before i can try e85 on this pump. Howard made his thread like a month after I asked this question. Unfortunately my internet reliability is spotty at best so it's kind of difficult to stay with the times here.

I had the walbro installed and it works great. It's extremely quiet (in my opinion) considering the volume of fluid it pushes and I havent had any issues with it so far. I will be keeping my build thread updated on what i find in the future.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but now that we've got 6 more years of technology in our fuel pumps (ha!) what is everyone using for pump gas only and a set of 4x ID1050 injectors? Sounds like the 485 would have been oversized for me anyway since I'm not running E85?
Is there a drop-in (or at least much simpler solution) for the FD now?

Thanks guys!!

(Saw this pump on FFE and thought I should do some research before committing, which is what brought me here.)
