Will the car run with no oil pressure sender unit???

Ok, here's the deal....My oil pressure is all over the place...jumping from 10 to 100 psi erratically. like the guage is making a bad connection at the sender unit. This is a relatively new sender unit (15k miles and about 3 years old) Here is what has me stumped. I went and bought a cheap mechanical oil pressure guage to check the oil pressure and after installing it in the stock location(what a pain in the @ss) the car won't start. It won't even turn over. Did i knock something else loose in the process or will the car not run with no oil pressure sender unit? any help would be great.
Thanks
Johno

It shouldnt have anything to do with it. I've never tried on an FD though, but I cant imagine them running any part of that circuit through the ecu. I'd say you pulled the starter's trigger wire off while jostling stuff around in that area.

It would run without an oil pressure sensor no problem.

If you left the hole unplugged without a mechanical guage you'd find oil spewing all over the place but it sounds like you've got something in there.

they'll run just fine without it hooked up, but definately have to have the whole plugged

in case you need one, malloy sells new sending units for $76. i just bought one about 23k miles ago and it's already bad again

Usually if you clean the connector off they work well. They get covered with oil and they start acting up. Chances are if you cleaned your old one up some it will work just fine.
