Whats The Best Silicone Hose To Use When Doing The Hose Job
Thinking about doing my hose job while im in there i have to change out my fpd, but would like to know what everone is useing my brother got the PFS hose, but i dont know what PFS uses
I've done 4 hose jobs on FDs. Use Baker Precision Hose silicone hose, it is thick walled and resists kinking. If I were you I *wouldn't* replace every single hose. Some of the larger hoses are preformed and really don't go bad, purge control *S* hose, oil breather hoses and others like it come to mind.
Just replace the vacuum lines that go to the solenoids. Becareful taking the old hose off or you will end up breaking them. Carefully slit the old hose right where it meets the solenoid with a razor. Twist it GENTLY and it'll pop off. If you just pull them you'll break the nipples right off.
Download Item #7 pdf file and read. Very important. Also if you go with Viton (expensive), use the English sizes 1/8" ID and 1/4" ID instead of the metric 4 mm and 6 mm. Reason is that the 4 and 6 mm hoses in the McMaster-Carr listing have wall thicknesses of only 1 mm. They will collapse under vacuum. The English sizes have 1/8" wall thickness (3.17 mm) and will stay open under at least 25 in Hg vacuum (personal experiences and tests).
The Hose Tech is very good and kink resistant. I've got some from Baker before and it's the same as Hose Tech, but more expensive. Purosil is realy good too.
You don't really need the kit, but about 40' of 3.5mm, 10' of 4mm, and 10' of 6mm(more if you have a profec). Was plenty for me.
