What a FD should sound like.
Well I recently got the Powertone custom exhaust put on. It is absolutly the best sounding exhaust system for the Rx-7. In my opinion the only problem with the FD was not having that true sports car sound but now with the powertone exhaust its a whole different story. It sounds similar to these 3 cars, lamborghini, lotus esprit and the viper. My next door neighbor owns the lotus esprit and it does sound uncany. Crusing around is has a deep rumbling/gargling sound and at wot its just simply amazing that words cant express. It sound so exotic, turns alot of heads. Its pretty loud, I would say almost loud as the ApexiN1 Duel. I also would like to thank batman for covincing me that this was the best sounding exhaust and racerfoo for helping me as well. Well I belive im the fist at posting a sound clip for this exhaust. So here it is http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4287952015
Video Clips cant do justice, sound much much nicer in person. Also I will have more clips up next weekend.

Yep, best sounding Cat Back evar for the RX anything.
It certainly gives an exotic one off sound with a deep NON-RICE tone.
I have it and will be adding a Flowmaster to the MP to see what other "nice" sounds that I can get from this combination.

Well, I couldn't see it... Damn imagestation..
What are your other exhaust mods? You still have a stock or hi-flo cat? Stock twins? Just curious... Some of us single guys with full exhaust are curious if there is an exhaust out there (Other than the RB) that's a little tamer.

So wait, did you have to have exhaust piping custom made to weld to the muffler and then a custom y-pipe made to attach the tips to? I'm kinda lost in what was done because powertone.com doesn't advertise a catback for the FD. Are the silenced tips necessary for that particular sound quality though? Or does the muffler do most of the work. I'm not sure I really dig their looks.
The car really does sound nice. Its good to have an exhaust review that isn't the same as most others. Everytime I hear about something, the guy is like, "it sounds awesome"....and its really just the way any other exhaust would sound on an FD. I'm looking at changing the tone of mine and I had planned on switching my Pettit resonated mp with a VRS (magnaflow muffler) piece, and going with a Racing Beat dual tip. I figured that would add the most sound quality and keep it quiet.
X-Ped, what is your current exhaust setup, anyway?

Powertone is sold sells the muffler tips that can be applied to any car, just like buying any tips.
The tips are the mufflers. That's all u need.
The MPEG doesn't do it justice. U'll have to hear it in person.
It makes the FD sound like a V8 power boat gurgling at idle and at WOT it just screams like something between a Diablo and Ferrari.
Hard to describe.

I just don't like the whole "dual tip" look, do they make a single outlet tip, I was leaning toward the HUGE Can BIG tip exhausts like the Dragger GT or the Greddy PE. I dunno, I like the sound though. I like the look of the other ones but the sound of that one, any way to mix?

How about this- everyone pitch in and sponsor a research car. I'll do it if everyone will conform to an elected list of guidelines. Here's the research guidelines for my car:
1. All 3rd gen forum members will donate $20 via paypal, check, or cash to the owner of the research car.
2. Car owner keeps all donations and no refunds will be allowed.
3. Agreement must be made that if sufficient funds permit the car owner to test the related effects of other mods on the car, such as a single turbo, LSD, a new set of gauges, 18" vs stock wheels, HID systems, big brake kits, racing seats, vented hoods, and body kits, then respect for the benefits of auto research will be preserved and no allegations of jealously towards the owner of the research car will be made.
4. No ***-kicking will be tolerated accept by the owner of the research car in order to protect the integrity of the project.
So, what do you say, guys? Good idea, right? Feel free to post a few suggestions, but remember the guidelines. I would also be interested in volunteering for an extended research position on the forum in which I would require a flat 15% of each FD owner's personal car budget so that I can drop out of college and discover results for all sorts of performance related effects of various modifications on 3rd gens.
