what else causes engine fires???

looking to find out everything that causes engine fires. so far i am going to get done, new primary injectors, fuel pulsation damper, and coolent lines to the turbos. my r1 has 76k on it and i think i should get this stuff done, the car has been well takin care of but just want to make sure.. anything else that should be changed to help prevent fires?

sorry, don't mean to be an a** but couldn't resist. seriously though, i don' t know a whole heck of a lot about the cars yet (just got mine a month ago) but i've been told that the "full pulsation damper" (i think that's the correct name) goes out on them and will cause (when the car sits for a few days) a puddle of fuel to form ontop of the engine which can, obviously, lead to a pretty severe problem.

Yes FPD, and Primaries shuld be changed / checked @ 60K 120K etc... also putting a bit of epoxy on the rubber nipple on top of the FPD can avoid disaster if under financial distress, but you're probhably adding stress to other parts with this... but as far as I know nothing can put a bandaid on bad Primary Injectors...

I recall that there was a recall on the fuel lines becoming brittle on the '93's (check the faq), make sure that's taken care of. And make sure the o-rings on the injectors are in good shape, and there in the first place.

Do what I did, replace everything on or around the primary fuel rail that is made out of rubber. Getting in there is such a problem (full rats nest) that doing it once is more then enough.

In addition to what everyone else said, to help avoid fires, get rid of the sequential turbo setup, as it produces massive heat, and restricts cooling of the motor, and proximity (due to solenoids, vaccum chambers, hoses, ect. blocking airflow). Then replace your fuel lines with SS braided lines. Then get a Bible and pray that your car doesn't suffer a firey death.

I just ripped out my primary fuel rail today. I can attest to the fact that my fuel lines are not brittle in the least...and that was in like 32 degree weather. 93 with 76k

None of what you mentioned has anything to do with fires...

Call the Mazda 800 recall number (search for it) and check if your car had its recalls done. If it did and you don't smell fuel under boost or in general then you are good and stop being so paranoid. I know its hard I'm paranoid too but if you don't smell fuel, it generally ain't leaking.

In the event that you are totally paranoid and want to go ahead and spend $600-800 replacing the Fuel Pulsation dampener and the fuel lines and you should be good to go. Fuel injectors leak also, but I don't have direct experience for the cost to replace the o-rings. Its all roughly in the same place though - under the manifolds and rats nest. I just did most of this btw...
