More fun at the junkyard
Hi all -
Having a slow afternoon at work, I snuck out for a while with a screwdriver in my pocket and went to the local U-pull-it junkyard to find some FD parts.
Of course, there's no FD's at the local junkyard, but there's a TON of other Mazda vehicles. You'd be SURPRISED what kind of neat little items you can find.
Off a mid-nineties 626, I got the two oval plastic covers that go over the screws on either end of the windshield wiper plastic surround. These were both missing on my car, and on a LOT of FD's I've seen. They also have the round covers that goes over the screws along the center of the shroud.
On 626's and a 929, I got about 5 of the plastic screw fasteners that hold the fender liner on. I was missing a few.
On past visits, I've gotten a number of other cool parts. An aluminum jack from an FC (which is pretty much the same as the FD jack - mine was missing), a pile of black pop fasteners for the interior (look in Miata's, I found a TON, and in trunks of sedans), and a new diagnostics plug for under the hood from a Miata. My plug was melted from a battery problem at some point in the past, but I will be pulling the pins out of the stock plug and swapping them to the new one.
Pretty much everything I've gotten (save the jack) I got for the admission price into the junkyard - $1. That's REAL hard to beat.

Thing to remember is Mazda didn't totally reinvent the wheel with EVERY part on the FD. A lot of parts are just from Mazda's parts bin, especially when it comes to electrical connectors, fasteners, etc.
Speaking of, the 626 uses nearly IDENTICAL passenger power window switches. The only difference is the polarity of the electrical connector, which some creative wiring work could easily fix.
