I would like to know the approximate value of a 1994 RX7 that had a fire under the manifold. It didnt damage the body and the body of the car is in very good condition. Mileage approx 98000. I've been offered 6800.00 for her but felt thats a little low. I sure would appreciate opinions. I don't want to sell her but if I do I would like to get the proper price and go to the right person. I also had an accident in 2001. The front end and hood were replaced, also right side light. THe rear bumper was replaced with new muffler. :smiley_12
was it "totaled" by the ins co? is it a salvage title? if not.....then I would say to look up the value of it. then subtract the cost of buying and installing a new motor and anything else that was ruined and needs to be replaced. That is would I would consider to be fair.
You will get all sorts of good/bad opinions here about your FD. I was the one who asked you to reconsider selling your FD.
I think all your vacuum hoses are toast, someone here should be able to give you an estimate as to how much it is to fix. And what your car would be worth after it's fixed.

Thank you for the message. Im still not sure what to do. Ive been offered 6800/ Just not sure if thats enough. No I dont want to sell but need the cash right now. This has been a hard decision. I had a lot of plans for her. I entrusted my car to someone who was supposed to check under the manifold but he never did. Just drove it around more or lesss. THen voila the fire.
You'll make more money if you fix it. People are scared if they hear the word "Fire Damage".
Ive been offered 6800 and have more or less accepted the deal. Her boyfriend is a rotary mechanic and repairing will be no problem for them. SHe said they were going to redo the engine. I guess completely overhaul her.
I wouldnt sell if I were you. Go get an extra part-time job and scrape some $$ cash to fix her. You'll be proud you did! The 6800 will likely be gone in no time and YOUR prospects at getting that good of a deal on an FD in the future are slim to none.
Rule of thumb:Only sell if you're buying a house, having a baby, or need major surgery.
The topic of selling a car because I have the Rx7 just came up tonight. I pretty much agree with not getting rid of anything though. Like they said... even $8000 plus the costs of repairing the harness and hoses.... you're looking at $10,000 and sell it for $13-15 if it's half decent..... I'd say dump a little cash in if you can and take the extra money if you want to sell it. If you want to keep it or get another Rx7, then definately dump the cash in now and be happy that you're driving away with an FD.

The wiring harness to replace new is going to run $800.00, each injector you need to replace is going to be $350.00 new, the metering oil lines are approx. $50.00 new, vac hoses will need to be replaced, many of the solenoids will need to be replaced at approx. $50.00 each new, and probably the leaky FPR or FPD that caused the fire at approx. $100.00 new. The cost to revive this thing will add up. If someone else is going to do the wrenching it is going to get alot more. I would say that a running FD with 98,000 on the motor is going to go for between $12,000.00 and $14,000.00. You can do the work yourself and beat the $6,800.00 price, but . . . . .

^Agreed. You could source the items used, but that will take longer and require patience. Even then you'll probably be disappointed somewhere along the line with the quality of used stuff. Assuming it's a 5 spd., you also have to objectively ask yourself what overall shape the rest of the car is in.

Hello, Just wanted to add to the post. The engine has been removed. The rotor in the front along with the iron housings were destroyed from the water that was flooded into the engine to put out the flames. Water sitting in engine over long period of time = rust. $6,800.00 for the vehicle was a fair price for both parties. The harness was toast , all electrical items a loss. Computer fried. Engine will need new front rotor and irons along with all new injectors, rats nest, etc. Even doing all the work myself I will still break even on the vehicle if I am lucky. Anyone who owns these vehicles knows they are a hole you pour money into like a boat. Everything on them cost a hundred dollars or more, But it is all worth it when you get behind the wheel.
