twins or single?

r upgraded twins like the efini twins worth it? I mean, on 12 psi, how would a T78 single kit compare to the efini twins running the same boost considering everything else is the same. Which way is better? do the twins produce a more smooth power? i want to drive smooth but fast. No jerking for me.... which way should i go? keep in mind i would like to run low 11s or high 10s in the end thnx

I'm fairly sure Efini models still used the same turbos as the US model.

Of course a large single turbo is going to produce more power at the same PSI as the stock (or '99) twins. However, you need a LOT more modifications for the single than just the "single kit" itself; where as you can simply plug in the '99 Twins (or other upgraded twins) without completely overhauling the engine bay.

The Search button is your friend.

Common sense does dictate a MUCH larger turbo will flow more even at the same amount of boost though.

You will probably need a big single to hit 10's. Why wouldn't a big turbo be smooth? It will have more lag, but that may make drive smoother really considering you won't hit boost until later in the rpm band.

Single is easier to work on but its more expensive. Either way the motor will need ported too, so there's more money. Technically you could run 10's on stock turbos and a ported motor but very few people are doing that so I wouldn't count on it. Also when running high boost on the twins which you will need to do in order to achieve those numbers, you're decreasing the life span. I wouldn't even worry about this until you do some other basic mods and get a good feel for the car first though. Search and read the newbie threads because all of these questions have been answered many times and much more in depth than I feel like getting into right now.

There's been a limited amount of people who have hit 10's on the stock twins. boostn7 is one of them...granted he can launch the **** out of FD to run 10's.

They don't sell those anymore, IIRC. But the stage 2s or M2 turbos will net you 400RWHP.

I don't think upgraded twins give a large enough power upgrade to make them even worth while. This is from experience.

I put together my own single turbo kit for the same price I paid for upgraded twins...I think its a no brainer if you are planning on, or already own the supporting mods.

Singles are for the most part overrated. The only department they really beat the twins is top end power. How many times do you leave a stoplight slipping the clutch to 3500-4000 rpms to get that T-78 to spool? Of course this is while the Civic pulls away from you until 30mph. Of course in town it's all over by 40mph anyway...

Singles aren't more reliable either. Usually people have screwed with the engine bay so much by this point that everything is rigged together poorly. Don't come back to me and say BS, I've seen so many FDs that are poorly modded, I'm surprised the motor even runs. There ARE exceptions, but most people don't mod thier cars right.

are you talking about the stage 3's goodfella is selling? search under his name.
I have one question though...why does everyone sell their upgraded twins? Search in the parts for sale section for upgraded twins...there are a million sold on there. The reason is they really aren't that much of an upgrade. Whats the best anyone has made on stock twins...I've seen 402. Whats the best on upgraded twins...I've seen 412. Is that worth over $2k? Not in my book. Whats the best anyone has made on a single??? A little higher than 412...right...

The single setup 100% is more reliable than a modded out twin turbo car. A twin turbo car putting out 400 hp is running 17-19 lbs of boost. They won't last for very long at that power. They will however put out a whole heck of a lot of heat. The single cars you mentioned, Turbojeff, are unreliable due to the owner being an idiot...not the single turbo setup. That would be the exact same case with a highly modded twin turbo car.
