Question transmission and turbo problems

hello to all, i'm dave and i'm new in this forum. i'm from malaysia. I just bought a 1993 rx-7 about a month ago. i'm facing afew problems that i would like to share.

1. the car was converted to manual from auto by the previous owner. the problem is now, after driving for about 45 minutes, the gear console gets heated up. And i mean really hot! is this because there is a mechanical default or is there any other explanations about this?

2. the car's boost is about 0.6 bar for 1st n 2nd gear but delibrately drops toabout 0.3-0.4 for 3rd, 4th and 5th. is it possible there is a problem with the turbo itself or the wastegate? its using its stock twin turbo.

thanks guys, since i'm new to this rotary engine community, really appreciate the help.

Are the heat shields for the turbo and exhaust all intact? If the exhaust is aftermarket, consider wrapping it in header wrap to keep the heat in the exhaust.

Also look for exhaust leaks.

The problem is probably neither the wastegate nor turbos. There is a minor maze of vacuum lines and solenoids and check valves that control the turbo valves, and it's hard to say which component is causing the problem. However the check valves in the rats nest are often responsible for this kind of boost problem and they're relatively cheap. So I'd start there.

Another possibility that ties both of your problems together is a clogged cat. It will get much hotter than normal and you won't make much boost.
