Top 5 Things I hate about my FD

LOL, so my car has been giving me some **** as of late and I just wanted to make this thread to vent and see what you guys don’t like about your FD's as well. I still love my FD but we have always had one of those love/hate relationships

1. Reliability-I have bad dreams about my engine taking a **** on me.... That’s how worried I am. ROFL
2. Costs-I have spent over 15K in the last two years getting my car to where it is today with no end in sight. Funny thing is, it sure doesn’t look like it has that much money invested into it. 1/3 of this money went into repairs.
3. Door Handles-Broke my second one in two years the other day and one of my interior ones is broken as well.
4. 5th Gear Syncro-Yup, mines dead.
5. Rear Ball Joints-Watch out for those huge pot holes!

1: Yep you need help.
2: No one is forcing you to do this. Reliability mods should not costs over $3000.
3: User problem, you or your passengers are using way too much force or technique. My March 93 R1 still has it's original ones in perfect condition. I know of more FDs still owner by the first buyer without problems.
4: The only thing that went out on mine at 105,700 miles was the input shaft bearing. I used REDLINE MT90 since about 5000 miles and shift properly with respect.
5. This one you are correct on. They do wear too fast.

My car has produce over 345whp since 1999 and I am still on that same rebuilt engine.

Respect and proper care and maintenance is required for these cars.

It's ok...my clutch is slipping and my transmission grinds on almost every gear...not so bad now with Amsoil in it but still all my synchros are shot. Pillowballs are dead and I still have an eletrical gremlin somewhere. Still daily drive her with no worries until I see the coolant light go on cause my AST busted finally.

However I do believe these cars are very much worth it.

1. THe transmission is finally starting to get put back together
2. the engine is in a crate.. waitin for everything else
3. I dont have the money to do what I want to do right now (fell 3k short)
4. It hasnt ran since I bought it. (I'll have LOTS of time to work on it. :-| )
5. I had to buy a motorcycle to sate my speed addiction untill the FD is running

Otherwise, I love the car. And everything I don't like.. I am to blame for. Owning an FD is like dating a Super-High Maintenance Super-Model that wants her cake and to eat it to, and pictures of her eating it and someone to feed it to her and someone to tell her how good she looks while being fed her cake and someone to massage her feet all the while. I could think of more, but you get the point.

I remember reading a post of someone that made aluminum door handles. Maybe you should invest in those. Hopefully someone can help you out w/ the link I can't seem to find it.

And you didnt think of this before you got the FD? lol

Wow 5 grand of repairs over a 2 year period of time. You must either beat the hell out of it, drove alot or bought a lemon.

3. Door Handles-Broke my second one in two years the other day and one of my interior ones is broken as well.

Damn are the door handles that bad? I had my car 3 years and both of them work fine. I guess im lucky.

4. 5th Gear Syncro-Yup, mines dead.
5. Rear Ball Joints-Watch out for those huge pot holes!

Thats common for the 5th gear, you should have already expected that. The ball joint problem, well our cars are old, just have to be careful of where you drive.

My top 5 in no order.

1: Become paranoid of taking it out, especially far when car broke down on you before. I had a stalling problem that i had quite some time figuring out. Now im scared of taking the car far places, right now i only take it local.

2: Just when you thought you replaced everything that needed to replace, you wanna start modding again, then more crap breaks.

3: Easy as hell to get dings. I was cleaning the car one day. I was trying to open a bottle and i was doing it near the car, my hand slipped and hit the driver door. Well there goes another ding. I didnt even hit it hard.

4: All the damn squeaky noises. I need to change my damn suspension already. Rides like i have no tires.

5: Need to replace my cat. I think thats the reason why i dont see boost til about 4500rpm so city driving sucks. People think my car is broke cause i start off soo slow.

Offtopic: You have rotas on your car? I was thinking about getting slipstreams. Ultra light plus its one of the wheels i wanna get thats in black.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

But yes, it's taken about 6 years to get to where I'm comfortable driving it hard. That is: not looking at AFRs, EGTs, and Water temps constantly. Thank you Steve Kan and reliability mods!

Happily I got a nice car, I've had my y-pipe and clutch go out and now my modified radiator went too but nothing that couldn't be fixed easily. Its the little dings, paint issues and delicate interior that get to me. I had a dream that my new twin-power was going to mess up my idle and make my reverse not work... that was weird.

You live in concord? I'm in Walnut Creek, I don't think I've seen your car before.

A lot of the repair costs on my car are from the last owner. For example, he had the turbos rebuilt while the car was getting a new motor. We all know how long these turbos last and when I got the car the turbos were shot. I had them replaced with 99 spec twins which cost almost 3K with all the gaskets and crap. He also sold me the car with a broken door handle, bad 5th gear syncro, bad rear ball joints, and a few other smaller issues. Of course, I got a great deal but im still fixing crap two years later... lol

Why you think i go out with barely legal ones? Cause they're hot, young and dumb. And all their friends are the same.

Its not the handle itself that breaks. It's the small plastic piece inside that does...
Anyway... Back to the Spanish girls My boy from Hoboken (not sure if thats right) says the amount of gorgeous rear end down there is unbelievable!!!

Your boy is right except there are ALL types of hot girls in hoboken. From hot white girls to hot asian girls, its like a mini NYC there. Mostly the hot young spanish ones are from the JC/north bergen area. You should see north bergen high school, it looks like the girls are trying out for ****. All nice and slutty looking. lol
