Just had the brake fluid changed and the system requires a second pump to get a solid pedal. The dealer said this is normal. Seems odd to me. Trapped air? Brake hoses giving? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Any shop should be able to bleed the brakes. Take it to a local meineke or anything like that, they should be able to do it for you.
Or do it yourself as Mahjik suggested.

If they really don't know what they're doing, make sure you keep the resevoir 3/4 - totally full. I had these symptoms last time before I realized that you can get air from the resevoir WELL before the fluid gets to the bottom.
