Question Schematics for 97+ ecu

Hi,

I am new to this forum and would love any help from anyone on this questions. I have a 94 fd in San Diego. I got an engine/transmission/harness/ecu from Japan after my original engine died (low on oil. my bad!). The only problem I have is that although the harness that came with the engine will fit perfectly into the japanese ecu, I do not think it will fit the harness from the dash. I basically need schematics so that the wires could be fused accordingly.

I have looked online for days, with no success. I hope my fellow enthusiasts on this forum will help out. An online pdf would be best, but I will pay for copies from the pages of the service manual. Should just be a few pages for the ecu schematics.

Despite looking the same. The wiring for the 3 series within the FD generation was changed each time.

Just be aware of that.

Series-6 = 92-95
Series-7 = 96-98
Series-8 = 99-02

The Jap-spec plugs for the series-7 + series-8 are different to the USA delivered series-6 (92-95). The pin-outs are also changed a bit here & there.

Japanparts.com should have access to the Japanese wiring diagrams issued by Mazda Japan. Just be aware they will be in Japanese with very little english.

Using the japanese model system:

type I 91/10 - 8bit

type II 93/8

type III 95/3

type IV 96/1 - 16bit

type V 98/12 - 32bit

type VI 00/10

Dude, the series-8 got the 16-bit ECU from 99-02.

The 32-bit ECU is from the RX-8.

Mazda made great noise back in 99 about the series-8 getting the 16-bit ECU. Even have the press release to prove it.

Made similar noises in 03 about the "series-1" RX-8 gettign the 32-bit ECU

ahh, yes you're right - I just checked.

actually, you're half right - the ECU changed with the type IV. The ABS unit changed to 16bit with the type V

not sure what I was thinking with 32bit :p

I've taken that info from a japanese magazine, but here's a japanese site that backs that up: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cd8t-aid/rx-7.html

Under the III --> IV heading it reads, "ecu ga 8bit kara 16bit ni henkou" in english, "the ecu changed from 8bit to 16bit [in the IV model]"

Body harness plug for series 7 ecu

So if I'm right, I will need a plug to fuse to the body harness on my series 6 car, so that it will fit into the 16-bit series 7 ecu?

The engine harness came with the 97 motor and tranny, so I know that will fit right into the series 7 ecu. I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do to get my dash to work off the ecu.

Help!!!!!! heh.

There are two companies in japan that I can think of that might be able to supply a special harness:

Field 048-875-3038
A-RF 042-946-0916

you could also try RMagic (they've done some pretty good work setting up a powerFC to FC rx7s)

RMagic - 042-764-7077

The bad news - you'll need someone with fluent japanese to ring for you.

The ABS unit to 16bit changed on series VI, i know cause i own a series V
