Road Trip's

Me and my friend are considering taking a two car road trip, he has a 97 integra gsr and I have my, well im at this forums, so you know what i have. Were sitting two in each car.

Just wondering, have any of you done any long distace road trips in an rx7, if so did you have any problems occur when the engine is running for a long period of time? Any discomfort in the interior? Im not sure if i want to take the rx or the durango. Thus the purpose of the question.

Personally I hated the stock seats...*** go numb problems...this is however true with most cars I have owned...

Long trips should not be an issue with the FD...if well maintained..do all the usual stuff..fluids, plugs, tires, brake checks..

I've taken many road trips in my car, and I find it more comfortable than my previous vehicles. Not much room for luggage, but enough for a few weeks. The car shouldn't have any problems. It's actually better for a car to be run long distances at constant speeds, then short distances in stop and go traffic.

Just got back from about 2000 mile round trip this 4th of July weekend. No problems for me other than getting extremely tired and a new big roch chip in the windshield. 11 hours each direction only stopping for gas is no fun in any car, I don't think the rx7 was any worse than any other car for it.

Shouldn't be a problem if the car is running good and you do a routine check on all systems before you go.

The car was made to be driven so drive it! Only problem is that the car interior gets even smaller as the hours of driving go on.

Plan on taking the car to Sevenstock in Sept. FL to CA is going to be one hell of a trip.

I drove my car from IL to VA when I bought it (it was about 1000 miles) and I had no problems. The car was completely stock at the time and still no problems. It probably helped that it was raining though (to keep the car cool). I didn't car for driving in the rain, but I found out that the car is actually pretty well equiped for the drive. The only problem is that it gets uncomfortable riding in the stock seats after several hours. You should probably stop every once in a while to get out and walk it off.

When someone dusts you in the Durango (longer the trip, better the odds), you'll regret having left the RX-7 at home.

I've driven my car 700 miles at a stretch (each leg of a round trip) with no reliability problems. I wasn't exactly "comfortable" when it was over, but I am never "comfortable" after long trips. I did have fun though and that isn't always the case after that long a trip. Your *** will go numb in any car after a certain length of time. You may feel like making an extra stop in the RX-7, but you should be able to make up the time.

What to expect from your Durango on long trip: Get less comfortable, is still no fun to drive
What to expect from your RX-7 on long trip: Get less comfortable, is still fun to drive

Thoughts...

Man, if you want to be in the FD, take it! It will make the trip fine and any discomfort is going to be the same as any other car. Who cares about miles unless you have a showcar you plan on keeping in the garage. Driving the FD actually makes the trips shorter for me cuz I love driving it so much! Just makes tickets a little riskier....

Plus, the FD really starts getting some good gas mileage if you cruise at 75 or so. I regularly get 16mpg, but on a highway trip it jumps to 25-27. Not bad for as much HP as it has.

One word of caution...CHECK YOUR OIL REGULARLY! I make 400 mile one-way trips fairly frequently and I'll usually go through a quart or so per round trip.

I say take the FD. One thing that will help out with comfort in the rx7 seats. TAKE OUT YOUR WALLET!! Mine kills me after a long drive in the rex. Or you can be like George on Seifeld and add paper napkins to your other pocket to even yourself out. HAHAH! I love that show.

Yeah, I'd second the 'take out your wallet' advice. I just took a 2200 mile round trip in my FD, and the wallet really screws up your back after 500 miles or so. I had to buy a pillow for my lower back too, cuz that started killing me after about 300 miles. Other than gasoline, a possible blown coolant seal, and fouled spark plugs, I didn't have any problems

Just put your wallet in your front pocket. My wife made me start doing this because I was wearing holes in the *** of my pants (I slide around a lot on my chair while I'm working)...

This is a good thread though, I was wondering about long trips.

during long trips i normally empty my pockets, throw on a hat, and just drive. Although, with the 7, I will probably seem pretty crammed.

None the less, just because I want to kill some honda on the way there, Im taking the rx7!

In that case I hope the Integra has plenty of storage space for the rest that are going. I've never sat in one so I have no idea how roomy they are.

its like sitting in a carboard box, its two in front, the rest of the seats are basically for storage of clothing and FOOD. Integras have really horribly built interiors. When you pull the door handle it feels like its pulling off. Anywho... their rather small and crammed, i do not enjoy them.

I'm going to have to beg to differ with everything you just said... No opinion is wrong, therefore no opinion is correct, though I disagree. Integra interiors are rather roomy for a smaller car. Also, saying the door handle feels like its going to pull off is due to whatever car you were in that day.

i would rather not take the 7 myself, i took it on a 700 mile round trip and it beat me too death.......i have another car that rides 10x better and gets waaay better gas mileage...on a road trip (which i hate being in the car for extended periods) i would rather go for comfort than style...but that's my .02....
