Rebuild + HP question

My new engine is being built this week, just a standard rebuild. The guy rebuilding my engine told me the compression was pretty low. I have had a boost problem where i couldn't boost over 6-7psi, will the new engine fix this boost problem because of the good compression? Or if the engine has nothing to do with the boost could the new vacuum lines fix the problem?

Also i would like to know what kind of power my car will make before tune and after tune. My mods are downpipe, catback, pettit intakes, pulley kit, 8lb flywheel and a pfc + commander. Thx alot guys any help is appreciated. -Eric

p.s. sorry for the noob post!

Nope, boost and compression are almost entirely separate. Unless of course your low compression is due to throwing an apex or corner seal, and that hard seal damaged the turbos. If that is the case, your rebuilder should have told you about it.

Vacuum lines might solve the boost problem, but only if a leaking or incorrectly routed vacuum line was the issue. The solenoids and actuators could be at fault for the low boost, and those will get re-used.

It's entirely possible to inspect the turbo control system for failed components. You can have your mechanic inspect the couplers for leaks, and maybe even test or replace the solenoids and actuators. If your mechanic feels comfortable trying to find the turbo problem (not all are well-versed in the FD's turbo control system) then now is the perfect time to find and solve the problem.

Check the dyno charts for cars with similar mods:

Which is why I said "similar mods". All you care about as far as power to the wheels with your mods are:

downpipe,
catback,
pettit intakes

and then boost level. That will basically be your determinant for power. Find a setup in the dyno page with those mods and the target boost you will be running and that will give you an idea on where you'll be.
