Any of the OEM parts are going to be outrageous new. Try to find them here on the forum. You will pick a lot of them up for next to nothing. A lot of the other prices seem high: "16340 3" Exhaust Gasket 3.0 @ 19.35 =$ 58.05" Huh?

The problem is if he's taking it to a shop they will be very hesitant to use anything that isn't new, most shops are reluctant to even use brand new parts that a customer purchased on their own. Which isn't a bad thing, used parts obviously will fail sooner than new, the shops just don't want to be held responsible so they just don't deal with it. And it looks like they are replacing the exahust, that quote is for 3 exhaust gaskets and at $19.35 a pop 3 of them will cost $58.05.

Sorry, can't tell ya if those prices are outrageous or anything because I don't have anything to compare them to. But just in general for the parts and labor for the 3 jobs your having them do it doesn't seem to be extremely expensive, just compare those prices with some other vendor prices and point out anything the shop can get cheaper elsewhere.

Replace Knock Sensor Labor: $178.20

Are you kidding? Unplug the connector and unscrew the thing and the reverse to install.

I can't imagine the thousands of dollars I saved by doing my own work and my friend helping me and in many cases doing it while showing me what to do for next time.

+1 fo trying to do some (all) of this by yourself.

OMG!! Please, for your own sake, do your research. I would hate to someone get r*ped as bad as the figures you were quoted above. PLEASE!!

Plus, most of that stuff is unnecessary unless needed.

Yes - you need to do some research. Those parts prices are MSRP and no sensible person pays MSRP. The Koyo radiator , for example, can be had for about $300. Look at Mazdapartscheap.com for more typical OEM parts prices.

People on this board tend to get a little overexcited about labour prices. Apart from the sensor installation, most of the labour quotes seems reasonable to me.
