plating rotors
before you guys yell at me, i tried posting this in the brakes/other stuff forum and got no replies...
is there anything i could coat or plate my new rotors (soon to purchase) so they don't rust away at the hubs like the stockers do? i was thinking maybe nickle plating (or powder coating) them and use the old pads to wear down/off plating over the contact surface. is this possible? or i would i just end up hitting the guy infront of me? i know a place that i can get .001in thk plating done.

umm you migth be able to get them aladined(SP?). find an aircraft mechanic shop they should be able to do it for you. just get the whole rotor done and then the breaking area will just wear off but every othere place will keep the coating. we learned this in school if we see a nut on a plane atha has a this coating or the anadizing scratch off we ahv eto recoat the nut or bolt with aladine stuff. i think it shoudl work wont cost you much either

wonder1and... sorry i forgot to mention that the problem is, i can't afford the plated ones... i'm looking at set of uncoated ones, they're like 1/2 the price... i can probably get the plating and stuff done for free at work.

Be patient. You will get an answer in the suspension/brakes forum, it just takes a little while longer because less people regularly browse it, but the ones that know, will see it and respond.

pugg I would love to have your bankroll. im 23 too but i cant afford half the ish you are doing. what do you do?
IMHO half the fun of this car modding stuff is being patient with it. if you do it all at once then you will get bored. and if you arent the type to get bored, but rather the type just to find something else to do, then you get broke! the stock rotors arent going anywhere - take some time and save for the ones you want!

A. You can just paint the rotor hat with hi-temp silver paint. It won't hold up under track use, but should handle street driving just fine.
B. Or you can order Powerslot rotors from www.tirerack.com that are cadmium-plated.
C. You can just mount the rotors and not worry about such little things.
