PFC or AVC-R better ???

I m deciding to buy a boost controller for my FD, so i want to know some infomation about it. The function of PFC has all the function that AVC-R has and even more right ???

cuz i want to have boost controller now and then buy a ECU later, i think i m going to buy a PFC is better and save money too right ???

If you are planning on getting a stand alone in the near future then just buy the PFC and use it's boost controlling functions. You can always add the AVC-R later. And as far as boost controller functions, the AVC-R has TONS of things that it can do. It's just that next to no one knows how to fully manipulate it. That would be my suggestion to you. But I would listen to the guys in the other thread and not try to make your stock twins put out 15 psi. You are truly asking for trouble if you do that. Just my .02 though.

I thought that we still needed a boost contoller on top of a PFC to properly control boost.

I don't know why that's just what I've heard. Maybe someone can chime in and enlighten me on why the PFC dosen't control boost well.

i thought PFC has all the AVC-R function already right.... if do so, i don't think i need to buy AVC-R right ???

just so you know, the PFC is an ECU, it's not just a boost controller. the way you are talking seems like you don't understand that. You say you want a boost controller now and an ECU later. well the PFC is a fully programable ECU, not just a boost controller. the AVCR is a boost controller, but if i were you and getting a boost controller i would look at the ProfecB spec2, it seems to be the best option for what you want right now. but if you're looking at boost controllers now, you may want to start saving for the PFC cause you'll need it soon.

Dont u need an additional part to run the boost controller on the PFC? like a solonied or soemthing like that...

The PFC can control boost by altering the duty cycles of the prespool and wastegate solenoids. This can be done using the commander. It's quite simple, and rather effective.

The PFC Boost Control Kit is an add on, that uses the solenoid from an AVC-R (instead of the stockers). Supposedly, it allows for slightly more accurate control. This is kinda worthless in my opinion. From what most people report, the Profec B works much better than the PFC boost control kit.

If I get a profec B and I have a PFC already.. How would you turn off the boost control feature in the PFC.. or do you have to set it on max so it doesn't mess with the setting on the profec B...

The Profec has it's own standalone solenoid. To install a Profec B, you disconnect the stock prespool and wastegate solenoids (which is how the PFC controls boost). Therefore, the settings on the PFC won't matter, and will not interefere with the operation of the Profec.

Once you instal the Profec B, you have effectively switched ALL boost control over to it.

I see so it doesn't matter what setting the PFC has because it can't control the boost... so it wont send the fuel cut if the setting on the profec B is like 5psi higher than the PFC settings.

Well, yeah, fuel cut is the only thing you have to be worried about. PFC will cut fuel when boost hits .25kg/cm2 over what it's set at. Just increase the boost setting on the PFC to a level you'll never hit, and then you don't have to worry about it again.

so you say seperate the boost controller with ECU is better, and use Profec B because it has more stable than other, right ?

One thing i do know the different between PFC and boost controller, but i have confuse with the function that AVC-R has. Because AVC-R seem has some function that PFC has, i m not sure it will has conflict on these two controllers.... So that i ask in this forum , thax for you guys anyway....... thax for your info...

also as you say, the boost control function in PFC is not as accurate than profec B ???

From my limited PFC experience:

The PFC doesn't allow for rpm based duty cycle changes. You just set the PFC to say 80% duty cycle and it is there no matter what RPM you are running. The AVC-R does have this which means more flexibility.

I don't have my PFC yet so there may be a way, I just didn't see it when I was browsing through my friend's commander.
