Of course the ASP Large IC is better than both of them : ). They are both copies of the ASP, the M2 was authorized, well the Pettit is actually an attempted knock off, can't even call it a copy. Out of the three the Pettit is clearly of the lowest quality. I could go into details about some of the funny things I've seen, even on their own website. The ASP large and medium will be able to be used with air pump in place as well. As a general rule you can almost always assume that originals will be of higher quality and value, for example look at the market with knock off body panels. They're usually substandard quality when compared to the original they're copied from.
A better way to think of it might be to consider the morals of the person making and selling the product. If they have no reservations about stealing a design and blatantly making copies of it what makes you think they'll suddenly get morals when it comes to the quality of parts and materials, long term durability and well let's face it pride in their work. If someone wants to get on here and toot their horn about how proud they are of the knock offs they make I'll laugh my behind off.

I dont own a Pettit and I'm not saying it is or isnt a knock off and I dont know about the quality but really, if you want to make a large smic there are only so many ways to do it. Its going to end up looking like someones just about anyway you do it.

Trust me it's an attempted knock off. He ordered a couple to copy them. Funniest part is he was too cheap to pay for one at first to make a copy. The loser wanted one of his customers to buy one and leave it with him to copy. The duct and piping were pretty much identical other than being cheap and hacked together. Would you find it surprising to see someone using substandard materials if they're that cheap? heh: ) Also it's not true that there's really only one way to do it, look no further than say Crooked Willow.
It might be unfair to be mean to the knock off people. Realistically the sad truth is they either don't have the intelligence or creativity to create their own designs and I suspect are too lazy most of the time as well. I guess they probably wouldn't be putting bread on table by selling cheap knock offs of car parts if they had some real talents or abilities. Someone has to be at the bottom rung of the ladder though...

Good observations Kevin.
Unfortunately it would be much nicer to see the consumer/purchasher make an informed decision as to which "provider" they should purchase from. Not only from a quality aspect but also from the desire to support innovators and not copy-cats.
Too bad it seems "ethical" purchasing of complex designs no longer holds any candle to the big dollar sign.

Thats what the forum is for. If you havent had the bad experience then keep your mouth shut and dont spread rumors.. my .02

Go ahead and delude yourself since he's your local vendor and you want to stick up for him but hey, a dirtball is a dirtball. Giving me an attitude doesn't make him any less of one so thanks for your helpfull advice. You'll forgive me if I ignore it.

It would be nice if we could get real world temp and pressure drops numbers on the IC's. All that's needed is to switch your boost gauge to a line that's before the IC . For temperature use an indoor/outdoor thermometer. Anyone want to volunteer numbers for their IC ?

I like my Pettit large. When I was buying an IC I wanted one with ease of installation and it to be huge. So…I wanted a M2 (yes, an M2 at first) and join the bandwagon. Well, after researching I found that many owners had problems getting them because of back-order. So I called Pettit and they had there's in stock, Cam threw in a greddy elbow with a flange for a bov in for free. My temps vary but usually stay in the high 20s in Celsius in the winter and the mid 40s in the summer. If I had to do it all over again I would get an fmic like blitz or apexi.
Kevin: why do you sound like a broken record when arguing this issue? Anyone can get a copy of your argument by searching. Settle down man, you have the gold standard in SMIC's. You loose your credibility when you fly off the handle about the IC. The only design similarity between yours and Cams is the core. The end-tanks are different and the piping is different. In fact, upon closer inspection they are remarkably different.
I am sure with any product design you take in account the best in the market and make them based on a proven product. Where would coke be without pepsi's competition or Microsoft without apple's innovation?

Higher overall quality and of course there's always the money issue. There's a group buy in process on the ASP IC's right now, I've got it on hold temporarily while we make a new molded tube to fit with the airpump.
