new car

hi

I currently own an mx-3 and am looking at buying a jdm 92 rx7 tt from japan. I test drove it 2day and have a few ques:

1)is it normal for the seat to be hot when driving?
2)is it normal for the tranny to transmit enough heat to the shift lever so that its fairly warm?
3)is it normal for your feet to feel hot by the firewall while driving?
4)If the 5th gear grinds due to synchro how long will it last? All other gears are smooth like butter.
5)any idea on retail on this RHD? it has 52,000km so the clock says.
6) any other thoughts on using this beast as a daily driver?

Cheers,

any mods done to it?

Also, are you going to have a daily driver for when you are working on the FD?

1. seat hot- i dont think it should be hot
2. shift lever warm- yeah my shifter feels like it gets hot
3. i dont think your feet should be hot by the firewall
4. have no clue just buy another transmission or rebuild. i was able to pick up a 99spec tranny for 350.
5. a jdm 92 fd i would say somewhere around 14k
6. yeah you could daily drive it. the only reason i dont daily drive mine is cause i have no a/c.

^^ You say your shifter feels a bit warm at times but wouldnt this indicate heat transfer into the cabin?

The car seat area is hot in an FD, the whole engine runs very hot. The drive shaft runs up the middle of the seats and will put out a bit of heat.

Im pretty sure the 5th gear synch is a common problem and is easily fixed but is a big job as you would have to remove the tranny.

If your worried about buying the car, look around and try some more FDs.

well if its rhd doesnt the exhaust run right under the drivers seat since its on the right? Thus feet and seat would be warm due to the exhaust

hi,

thanks for all the replies. So if I buy this particular rx7 is it likely it can just blow on me and I would be screwed? I really like this car, but am also scared of it. Mods are exhaust, intake, suspension and possibly internals but i am not sure about that.

there are no "internals" in a rotary unless the motor has been rebuilt and ported, etc... sounds to me like you're not ready to use it as a daily driver. you could buy it and learn as you go if you have another car to drive everyday, but without knowing much you'll end up getting stranded and paying a ton of money to have it fixed when it goes wrong. if you can't afford two cars, you'll be better off learning more about them before you try and drive it daily
