like the blower doesn't work? Most likely the blower resistor (controls the speed of blower) or the blower motor itself. Start with the basics like checking fuses.

fuses are not burnt out. where's the blower resistor located?

not sure. I'm sure you could find it in the factory service manual. I think they're attached to a sticky in the 3rd gen forums.

Here's my writeup on the AC blower resistor -

http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=59&mnu=5

First, let's go over a few things. If you switch the AC to speed 4, do you get air blowing out of the vents? If so, that's definitely a resistor problem. If not, you have a problem with the blower motor itself or the fan switch in the dash.

no air is blowing at any speed. is there any way to check if the motor is the cause? thanks

Start with page G14 ( heater/ac section ) of the green manual and go from there. The shop manual is your friend and the source of all direction you will need to find root cause. This way you systematically go thru each possible cause.

OR you could blindly just start tearing things apart on your own, possibly causing more damage and running up the $$$.

My $0.02 for today

There is a Tech Service Bulletin 95-09 - insufficient contact at the switch connector - switch runs through the same harness as the hazzard switch - they can work and problem may still be present - all 93-95 fd's -may be worth checking.

heater problems

Hi new to the group and looking through post found I had the same problem you had recently.
I was not getting any responce form any of the heater controls including the AC not working, fans 1-4 not working, no little orange lights on the fan switch or on the posistion switch for air direction, the only thign that would work was the Hazard light switch.
I was only able to fix the problem by removing the heater controls and re soldering the circuits attached to the controls.
I did hunt down the specific area and I will dig out the info from Mazdarotaryclub for you, worth a try it worked for me, after soldering I now have fully functioning controls again.

I will post some more info once the MRC site is back cup and running.

Did you remove the connector block and solder all the wires? That would solve the problem. TSB is s bit less extreme.

soldering

I stumbled accross my problem area on the board which as you can see here is shot, once I had resoldered the connections into this I went over the rest of the PCB to make sure, pluged it in and it worked.

psquare8 which connector block do you mean? knowing me I went the long way around to solve something as usual

I work at BMW. When our resistors go out (pretty common), sometimes they only blow one speed, sometimes not at all. It may fix your problem, may not. your blower motor could be bad.

I can't take off the platic cover with the contols on it. I tried pulling on it but only the top, bottom and right side poped off. Not the left. if the heater core was the problem, the little orange lights would still turn on right.

PLEASE don't blindly yank on VERY expensive and brittle interior panels . Read my writeup on the proper way to remove them.

wow, one of my old threads about my first fd! Yeah I fixed this problem not to long after I posted this. It was the rear wiper fuse. Yup, totally didn't check this fuse because I thought I didn't have to. rear wiper was removed so why put a fuse right? I checked the wire diagram then my automotive instructor at the time said to check out that fuse and what do you know it's missing. it some how fused to the blower motor relay. new fuse installed and now works in all speeds. it wasn't the resistor.

Happy it all worked for you. I have to upload a picture of the wiring diagram one day.

Bumping this thread before i take a hammer to my car. My rear wiper fuse keeps blowing on my 93 as soon as i turn the key on and i cant figure out why. It kills my climate control and throws an abs light on. Ive tried powering up with the rear wiper disconnected, heater relay and resistor disconnected, but still pops every time. My blower works in all speeds, but nothing else lights up or works on the climate control. Any thoughts? Much thanks!

Glad this thread popped back up. I'm experiencing the same issue. Where is this fuse located? Since the R1 didn't have rear wippers would this fix apply to it as well?
Thanks
