Question Need help or the car is going to get it

Can anyone help............Car been sitting there for a few months waiting for the weather to get better and when i finaly got it started big pops and bangs from exhaust. went to have a run down the road and just start to rev and splutters dont rev any higher than about 2k like someone has stuffed an apple in the exhaust. but i checked for that and found no apple so does anyone have any ideas what this could be or i am going to have to kill this head stress once and for all. getting to the point where i am going to leave it on the street with the keys in.

Sounds like car is in limp home mode or has some similar error caused by out-of-whack ignition (TPS, etc). Since it has been sitting for a while, I would look for rodent damage around the MAP, TPS, coils, plug wires, etc.

I would just try to pull codes first and see if anything is up, then go and check for damage elsewhere. Definitly check out the items rynberg stated already.

JDM car's dont throw codes? I have a diagnostics plug underneath the hood......

Can someone tell me exactly how to achieve reading codes without the actual diagnostics plug?

Why didn't you start it up every now and again instead of letting it sit there for so long?

I bet your car dumped extra fuel on cold start.
Your car is losing power and cant rev pass 2.5k or so.
You running full rich which is causing your car to backfire and pop.
Your cat is getting clogged.
Sooner or later your engine will be flooded with fuel and you will have to go through another process.
This happened to me.
Starting the car without proper warm up can flood the engine. Moving the car from the driveway to the garage when cold, here and there etc etc.

Hi mate im from the UK ,, i beleive your car is either flooded or in limp mode, some rx7s flood out due to been stood for a long time you need to do the following.
Pull out the spark plugs, clean and dry them (i cook them on a gas ring), now pull the big EGI fuse on the front cross member, now crank over the engine with the plugs out, the engine will eject all that unburnt fuel, you will see. clouds of the ****, do this for 30 seconds, now replace the plugs, EGI fuse and leads (make sure leads are on correct plugs) and fire her up <---------- i bet this works :-)

If its not this then it could be an electrical fault and you need to pull the ECU codes PM me if you want me to explain fully how to do this,,,, it isnt difficult on a jap car :-)
But try the unflood first,,,probably just this.
