miscellaneous ramblings on broken FD

I keep toying with the idea of selling my car "as is", getting whatever I can out of it and moving on.
Logically this makes sense in some ways. For one, my girlfriend and I have been looking at trading her Astrovan and my Suburban for a newer Suburban or Yukon or something. If I do this, I would like to be able to garage it. Currently the Volvo and the RX-7 sit in the garage, and I don't really have the room to build another garage.
But then some things happen like this: I think about what life without the FD would be like, and I KNOW I would miss it horribly. And then a few days ago (last Sunday) I was up town and there is a Honda S2000 parked with all sorts of kids ogling it, the kids in their Civics and Neons and Saturns, etc.. I was mailing some bills and the S2000 was pretty much parked in front of the post office (we can park in the center of our streets in my little town) and as I am going inside the post office I hear someone yell at me, I see it is this one kid I know so I go over to talk to him, and he is like, "Check out this baby.....do you think YOUR car can beat it?" because he knows I have the FD. And the owner of the Honda must overhear this as he emerges from the group and asks what kind of car I have, and the kid I know and about 3 others answer, "He's got an RX-7...the twin-turbo one!" The Honda guy is cool, says how neat the FDs are, etc. and we make small talk about cars for a while and then I go about my business.
But I am thinking, "Dammit....my car makes an IMPACT on these kids...it is KNOWN around town...." and I realize I am grinning like an idiot thinking about my car and how it is perceived. Then I think about how the cars are getting rarer and rarer.....sigh.
Decisions, decisions.....again.

Is there a reason for this thread?

I say you fix the 7 YOURSELF. It's fun (i think) and you learn a whole bunch about the car. If money is not the reason, which in your post it didn't sound like it, then I would definately* keep the RX-7. Get rid of the Astrovan and Suburban and get something that is worthy of sitting outside. Right now, I think the Volvo and RX-7 are worthy of being inside. Whatever you are trying to accomplish with this thread, I say you keep the RX-7 and fix it yourself.

Oh, and some better explanation of what is wrong with the 7 might help us juuuusssssttttt a little.

Details of what went wrong are here:

As for the 'purpose' of the thread....I don't know for sure, just looking for more opinions, pros/cons especially from those that have rebuilt and justification or "is it worth it?" to fix.....I guess.

I just find it weird to contemplate NOT having the FD....I've had it over three years and really haven't put a dime into it that I didn't want to, so it doesn't owe me anything.

Another part of me wants to go ahead and do a COMPLETE fix-up on it, fix the little door dings and repaint it (some CHROMALUSION scheme), show it in local car shows, etc.

Okay, the real deal is....I just have never owned another car that made me feel so good about owning it!
There! That is it.

Obviously, you should keep the car. Fix it yourself and you'll have a ton more respect for the car AND you will know how to fix the "small" stuff in a heartbeat when the time comes. I say keep it, fix it, and love it!
