knightsports hiflow cat???
does anybody know who sells a knightsports hiflow cat? i've been looking for one for sometime now. does anybody have one installed on there 7? can you hook the air pump up to it? thanks

Why on earth would you want to pay all the extra money for a "JDM" hi-flow cat? Either buy an N-tech or Gotham Racing hi-flow and weld an air pump tube on it or buy a Bonez or RX7fashion that already has the air pump tube welded on. Any of those will be far less than any "JDM" cat...

In Australia I can pick up a high-flow unit for A$400-$500. Japanese price is double that (at least). You don't get any whizz bang extras and the flow characteristics would be minimal (if any difference at all)
I will say this though, there was a recent FD comparison (in a japanese magazine) between a midpipe and a high-flow - and surprise, surprise, the high-flow wasn't far behind at all, in terms of peak HP. I'll post up the figures later.

Probably more efficient at "removing" environmental pollutants with less back pressure.
My recommendation would be to call Corksport as they can get pretty much anything from Japan.

There may be several benefits: reduced back pressure, cleaner exhaust gas and perhaps lighter weight.
Is it worth double the price? That depends on what your priorities are.

also with the newer technology it may help further decrease emmisions. i might help people on the verge of passing the sniffer to pass **** if i could slap a new cat on that would make me pass smog i would pay 1k for it

Metal Cat is already proven. The cells are bigger than the regular ceramic cat and that's why it flows better. On the dyno, it flows almost like a 3" straight pipe. There are many dyno testing done in Japan.
Good news is that you don't have to pay too much for it at this time because I already have a source to have it done for $500, as cheap as those ceramic cat. Anyone insterested so I can start on this project?

If you are gonna really do it Chuck let me know, I am looking for another cat. And if this lowers emmissions and can hold up to the rotary heat I'd definitely consider it.

heres an example of pricing of some aftermarket JDM FD cats;
apexi = 88,000yen
RE Amemiya = 108,000yen
Osaru = 110,000yen
Kazama = 72,000yen
Metalit (sold by knightsports) = 78,000yen
The dyno test I mentioned previously:
straight pipe = 360.7hp/40.6kg-n torque
sports cat = 350.9hp/39.9kg-n torque
not as much difference as I suspected

I thought about doing it a year ago but back then the Metal Cat was a lot more expensive. Now I have a source that will let me keep it the same price as the high flow ceramic cat.
Metal Cat can definitely withstand rotary heat. It can withstand heat better than the ceramic one. About lowering emission, that needs some testing. I will test it on the dyno smog. If it passes the CA dyno smog, it will pass anything.
This not the regular Catco ceramic cat. The regular ceramic cat can't really withstand rotary heat. The bricks shatters and that's how your cat is clogged up.

Any chance of getting a comparison of various hi-flo cats (including the newer ones discussed in this thread)? The one dyno that's been floating around comparing a hi-flo to a midpipe is suspect at best.....
I'd be willing to ship out my Bonez for a while for the test (providing I get it back ).

Actually I would love to do it but testing out competitors' products isn't really something I want to get into. Even if indeed the regular high flow cat does not flow as well according to dyno, the data I provide is probably not going to be persuasive since I am a competitor. There is probably a big flame war after that.
I will need to find a local guy who is reputable on the forum to go to the dyno with me and watch the whole procedure if you want me to do that. And I will let him post the result instead.

I'm just surprised (as Wade was suprised about (or lack there of) catback comparisons) that there isn't something out there already. There are still quite a few of us who don't want midpipes.
If something like that comes about, my offer is still there to ship out the Bonez for testing.

Actually it's not about who hosts the data. If I provide you with the data, it's the same as if I post it myself. I need either someone who is not affiliated with any company to test it or someone to come with me on the dyno to test it to make sure fair testing is conducted.
I am not surprised there isn't any catback comparsion on the market. For fair comparision, you will need to put the exhausts on the same car and test them on the same day to make sure the only variable is the cat-back. I don't think any retail customer will have the kind of finance and time to do something for people especially he is not getting paid for it.
I am personally tired of stinky exhaust myself. I will at least make one for my own car and go from there.

I am pretty serious. Actually I would like to test it on your car instead mine since I have too many stuff on my car already with a single turbo, no air pump, ported motor, etc. And I want to test it at the smog station as well. What do you have on your car right now? Is your motor stock? Do you still have the air pump?

I've got emissions coming this year in September or October. I'll need to get a new cat because I don't know if my stock ones will let me pass. I have no emissions at all right now. Everything has been removed and blocked off. I won't be able to put the stuff back on with my fuel system either. I'm going to have to do the Vette pump option or try a scuba tank maybe.... But I'd be a perspective customer on a high flow cat for sure.

I can loan out my Border Racing Cat' for the test but there is no smog pump connection. I may drive up north after the engine is back in but not sure how many months till it's running again.
