i just got my fd.. couple questions

thanks for taking the time to read this.. i just got my fd.. it drives great.. other than a couple things that bother me.. i think im just worrying to much... but sometimes when im drive normally.. in like third or fourth gear.. it will sputter at around 3 or 4 grand.. i figure id just change my plugs and that would fix the problem though.. and uh.. from my understanding.. i think that the car was sitting for a little while.. because the battery was dead when i got it.. when im sitting still i can notice the car smoking a little bit.. for the exhaust and like under the hood a little.. idk really know what it is.. i figure that i would drive it for a couple weeks and maybe it was just burning of some gunck or somthing... idk.. but over all i like the car.. ive wonted on for the longest... i think the first thing to do after fixing the problems... is an exhaust and bov.. lol...

Omg..You know you're a ricer when: "First thing I need to do with my new car is get a loud awesome BOV!"

1.Get a compression check
2.Search the forums A LOT before posting again
3.If you fail to do those in that order, please proceed to sell the car and buy a Honda.

I had a few problems with mine which had been sitting before I bought it so I'll just let you know about a few problems. Most of this stuff is in the sticky but I'll just give you a couple of quick pointers:
1. Be sure to change the coolant right away. If the smoke you are seeing from the hood is steam, you could have a coolant leak in one of the coolant pipes. The cause is having the car sit and the coolant becomes very acidic due to electolysis and can eat a hole in metal pipes. These motors are basically sandwiched together unlike metals (like a battery) so are a lot more subject to electrolysis than piston engines.
2. There is a normal hesistation around 3 grand that is just the turbo going from the 1st to the 2nd stage but between 3 and 4 grand could be something else. Changing the fuel filter is a good thing to do so you know you are starting clean. Just be sure and do your due diligence on maintenance. These cars need extra maintenance to keep them good. Best of luck with your new FD! Be sure to read the sticky thoroughly and do everything it says.

Actually the 3k hesitation is an unknown. Nobody's really sure what the problem/fix is, but some have reported swapping out ECU's seem to work. O2 sensors also sometimes do the trick, while others say that new grounding wires are the way to go.

I would definitely try adding a few more grounds to the engine and chassis. This cured all my "3K hesitation" problems.

Grounding kit

Yes, could be. I got a grounding kit from Petit and installed the top half of it. Have noticed my gauges seem to work better and I never get the 3k hesistation you are talking about.
