How much would you pay for a freshly rebuilt FD engine?
I am curious, as I have plenty of parts to build a very nice FD engine block (short block) but I am not sure how much people are willing to pay. Standard rebuilds are between $2500-2700.00 and have core charges as well, so I hope to get at least $2600.00 for it. This engine will have all new bearings, new OEM apex seals, all new gaskets, and new springs as well. The rotor housings are very nice, and the engine would come with a photo CD showing what went into the assembly.
Give me an idea, and I'll decide to build it, or sell the parts individually.

GtoRx7,
Given your reputation on the forum, I don't see why you couldn't get $2600 for it. That's around the price of a reman except you'll be providing pictures as to what went into the engine (and better parts and labor).
However, I don't think you'll get a lot more as when people start spending the big money, they usually expect a big name shop to back the work.

BTW - Everybody... I charge $2600 for just for labor on a rebuild (and even that is a pretty damn good deal) so this is an awesome price for a shortblock (providing its built legit).

GtoRx7 - That price is definitely fair, you should have no trouble selling engines at that price once "the word gets out". One thing to bear in mind is the competition and/or what most people do when it comes time to rebuild or replace their engines. Some are simply only able to get by with the cheapest route possible due to financial constraints, these folks often go with a good used salvage-yard engine or go to someone like Kevin at Rotary Resurrection, where they can have some degree of confidence that they'll get an engine that will give them a few years of service. The other end of the spectrum is those that will spend the big bucks for a brand new crate engine. And all in between is...everyone else.
And sadly, there have been and will continue to be a number of people with GREAT intentions that rebuild engines, yet aren't up to the challenge to make a long running rotary.
If/when you have a few engines out there that are running strong with no problems, your work will speak for itself. Good luck, the rotary community needs good resources such as yourself.

Damn! I just charged a guy $450 for labor to replace is blown coolant seals. This labor also included removing his assesories, engine teardown clean and spec, & replacement of everything. I even converted his non-seq turbos back to seq in the process. Now it's running perfect. I just *** rapped myself on labor charges and could have charged alot more for what I did.
