You must be a skinny little dude .

I'm in the stages of picking up a set of Spirit Rs. Based on the research I've done, you'll drop about 30 pounds off the weight of the car, and they free up a lot of room for big and tall guys (of which I am neither, lol). Plus, they look sexy as all hell

How small are you? When I sat in them, they were really really low but comfy!

Well, some of you have already recieved an PM from me about the booster protector I have forsale.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?p=6749044

Hence why I was asking this question.. I figure if there aren't that many RZ black seat owners in the states then I was going to just send the side protector I got (wrong color) and get the right one.. but since its already here, I thought someone might want it and save some time and hassle of trying to locate one and someone to ship!

By the way, Just in case those of you who have it doesnt know..

The sides do wear and eventually leave a hole.
The Recaro RZ/Spirit R covers are only sold by Mazda Japan as they own the pattern. I've already contacted Recaro USA about this.

So, $180 in my opinion a good investment for $2+K seats.

Covers are $1000+ per seat new. and can not just buy one section.

Getting new covers made are also expensive as patterns and padding are complex. The quote I got from a local shop was about $1500 in leather, $1000 in cloth.

If you do not mind me asking...

Where else can omeone buy a set of these seats and seaty accessories (side protectors), other than FDnewbie

3,800.00 USD seemed kinda steep for used seats.

and someone said 2k, so I figured maybe that there is somewhere else that is signigantly cheaper.

Thanks.

You say these seats drop you lower, that nice because I'm 6'1'' and I don't like having the gangsta lean when I drive my car, infact I usually have the seat pretty far forward.

Isn't there other seats that look like that but are cheaper? I am tall so I would like a little more head room in my car but spending over $2000 on used seats sounds crazy to me.

I would think someone can lose weight in other places (including driver) for way less than $2K+.

I don't think people buy these seats for the weight loss, it's just a side benefit.

I'm buying them becuase theyre a Spirit-R part, they look great, are OEM so they fit perfect without special rails etc, and have the clip for the stock seatbelt. Being light is an additional plus.

I have one of the bolster protectors too - much better than the cheap 'sticky cloth' that I used before.

As for the seats - I got mine for about US$1300. Mine are 96-ish black RZ (slightly different shell pattern to the newer ones). I've also purchased (for a customer) a set of spirt-r reds for about US$1600. A friend of mine recently picked up a set of reds for less than what I paid for mine. There's definitely bargains about, if you can find the right exporter and are prepared to wait.

Now, I'm not recommending myself here (I do very little parts trade these days, due to lack of time), but what you need to get a cheap price is someone who ships via a container. I don't have the connections for this, and I've been restricted to air freight. This is where the price really blows out - as the freight is dependant on cubic volume - not weight - and those seats aren't small, even when they are constructively packaged.

Trivia: interestingly, when I had two sets at the same time - spirit-r and early RZ - I had them side by side and there is a significant difference in height (the later ones seem to be about an inch taller).

Is that for the pair? I weighed a stock R1 seat (w/out rails) at 25 pounds, these are claimed to weigh 10 pounds. Unless the rz/spirit r rails are heavier than stock?

Hi Rich, yes that was for the pair. As you say, the heavier rails with the tilt feature offset the weight savings of the shell itself, by a little, and the net loss is 9 lbs per seat. I took some pictures of both seats with rails on an industrial quality scale a few years back, and I'll look at the exact numbers tomorrow.
