having trouble starting motor!
ok guys, i've been helping a friend with his motor, and we got it in and everything, but now it wont start. It was just rebuilt....
i know we are getting fuel because it likes to flood alot.
i know we are getting spark(i hope from all the plugs)
I'm thinking some how maybe a ground or something isn't connected.(rechecked ALOT)
the engine turns over and doesnt even make an attempt to start. could haveing the 02 senser not hooked up cause it not to start?
we had the stock ecu in, but we pulled it because he doesnt have the rats nest in there, so i figured maybe because it wasnt hooked up to the solis. it would go in limp mode or something, so we put in the pettit ecu. And still no go....
please help me think of something else that could not be hooked up or something.
thanks

There's about 2000 threads on this issue.
"i know we are getting fuel because it likes to flood alot."
I think that should be your first place to look.
Also check the connection on the CAS sensor near the main pulley. Look for loose wires or breaks.

on the pettit ecu, is it ok to not have the emissions hooked up? reason i ask is because the stock ecu needs the rat nest and stuff like that, does the pettit need it too?

AFAIK, The pettit needs the emissions harnesses either connected to sensors or the use of resistors to fake the ECU out. They modify the INJ, ITL, ITT, and max boost settings - not the entire ECU logic.

update
well we got it to start once! cant get it to start again.
found out couple things, the wires going to the coils were wrong, which i dont get because i by what the wires were on my engine and it is stock (just pulled it)
its having a really hard time starting again, it sounds like it really wants to start for about 5sec. then it goes to that tone like its flooded.... we've unflooded it many times by pulling the EGI fuse, but still no go.
let me know if there an easier way to starting this thing.
thanks

Its a new engine right? If so, yank the plugs, clean and dry them and try again.. If it's flooding you'll have soaked plugs. Also, squirt a little MMO in the spark plug holes to bring up the compression to help get it started.

well have another update, the engine starts but only starts when we push start it. it wont idle any lower than 2.5k, most likly because of a vaccum leak. the major problem is it missfires like crazy shooting alot of flames about every 2 secs(at idle).
we are thinking this might be because the wireing harness(almost 100k on it, and is very stiff), its like the timing is off, but you cant adjust timing on the fd, so its out of our hands.
then as it was sitting, we turned it off, and it started to overheat,(we could hear the coolent boiling) then a rad hose popped off. this has been the hardest start-up ive been involved with.
so the owner of the car is just going to a stand alone so we can get a new wireing harness. there is many things that could be wrong with the electrial system. nothing is intune with eachother.
it just idles really bad, but when driving or when rev it, its very smooth.
ill let you guys know if anything else happens.

If it has a bigass vacuum leak it might just be not getting enough air, which would cause it to run very very rich. Could be part of the reason for your flooded starts and really bad backfiring.

the NE/ G signal sensors,,,, make sure these are right#
i checked mine and once switched round started straight up

ya, thats what we thought it might be to, but one of my friends says its most likely the harness, we also think this might have been part of why the engine popped in the first place.
the timing is really retarded, its gotta be the wires, thats the only other thing that could be wrong. everything is hooked up correctly(so we think).
ill let you know what happens once we get the new standalone with harness.
thanks guys
