greddy intercooler question

i have asked this question before but didnt get a straight answer.

whats the difference in the cores of the greddy 2 row intercooler made for the stock twins and the same 2 row made for a single. at the rx7store, the twin kit costs $900 and the same intercooler for a single costs $1250.

my question is: are the cores the same?? do they both handle the same psi of boost? is the difference in the piping? why would it make such a price difference??

The one made for the sinlge is basically meant to handle a DIFFERENT type of air/flow. The type that you would see from a single turbo. I dont know if its really psi, but they ARE different, and it IS NOT a good idea to use the one that isnt made for your turbo setup.

Those where not the same questions you asked before though.
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=INTERCOOLER

are the cores the same??
No one is a Vspec and one is a R spec

do they both handle the same psi of boost?
They are recommended to handle up to 15 to 17 psi I believe above that it is recommended that the 3 row be used.

is the difference in the piping?
Yes the cheaper one has steel piping I believe

why would it make such a price difference??
I think it is because of the going rate of materials used in the making of the ICs

What is you setup, I am sure the guys around here can recommend the correct ICs for you if you give them an idea of what you are looking for, and from there you can make a decision what is right for you.

This is completely wrong. The materials have nothign to do with it at all. Same materials. The are designed to flow in different ways for different applications (single vs. twins.). And the 3 row is something completely different. You can get a 2 row for twins or single. The 3 row is the extremely expensive one and is only available for single.

I have seen and installed both 2 and 3 row..

Pipings are abviously different.. since 3 row only came in in single set up..

the mounting and the actual point of where pipings connect are the same..

The inlet for 2 row is 2.5 inch.. same location as 3 row.. and 3 row inlet is also 2.5.

Outlet is 3 inch in both 2 and 3 row.. hence you could interchange pipings..

I'm now running 2.5 inlet pipings from 2row for stock twins and 3 inch outlet piping from 3 row for my 2 row.

Hope this make sense..

Greddy do not sell pipings seperate.. I was lucky to find this combination.. My friend was getting rid of his 3 row and my other friend is buying the 3 row for his 20b. and didn't need the pipings..

Have you ever priced the difference between aluminum and steel tubing?
It can be anywhere from %50 to %100 more in price depending on size.
And then there is the mandrel bending that usually costs more for aluminum.

I have not seen the core profile of either but I am suspecting that there is a more elaborate or harder to manufacture core for the Rspec. Hence material cost and production cost rises.

The are designed to flow in different ways for different applications (single vs. twins.). And the 3 row is something completely different.
Would you care to elaborate on this?
you sound like you know something that nobody else on this board knows

Well technically you could use any core you felt like to accomplish you goal of cooling the charge air with varying efficiencies, but it is recommended by Greddy that their two row be used up to 15 Psi

and on a side note I would not personally get a greddy, as I think the whole concept of their front mount is flawed. let the wars begin. bring your brain
