Fog Light Switch, Defroster Switch... and???

I have a base FD and have never seen one w/ all 3 switches put in (the switches right behind the shifter).

I know one is Fog lights, one is rear defrost, but whats the 3rd? Sunroof?

I am looking to acquire both the fog switch and the sunroof switch (if thats what it is) if anyone is selling. I will put in the factory fogs and use the 3rd switch to run to my amplifier to turn my subs on and off.

Any info is appreciated.

you can get the switches from a Mazda dealer for about $50 each. they are the same as the same year Miata. (hint hint... make a visit to the junkyard)

The 3rd "switch" is a blank for US FDs. It was used for the headlight washers for Canadien FDs.

If you want to get another switch for turning on an amp or something like that, get the foglight switch as it toggles (the rear defroster doesn't).

The fog lamp switch is the one you want. I would not recommend the factory fog lights. They can be very expensive, and don't provide much illumination. IMO aftermarket fog lamps look nicer, and perform much better. They are generally far less expensive than the stockers.

Does anyone see a problem with hooking up a fog light switch in the defroster switch? I have remote start on my car and would like to be able to leave the defroster on so when the car starts up I don't have to wait until I am in the car to turn on the rear defroster.

ummmmmm... no

im pretty sure miata switches are NOT interchanegable w/ the FD! miata switches are square (i have a miata as a D.D.) -heath

and yes the switch is for canadian FD's that have small windshield washers on the headlights!

in europe they have a few other switches as well...

does anyone have experience installing miata switches in a 93? It seems we have a dissenting opinion.

what aftermarket foggers resemble the stockers?

i have a miata as a DD.... the switches are square (on the 89-97's... im not sure about the later miatas). i just found my digital camera between the couch cushions yesterday (i thought it was gone forever 2 months ago!! hahaha) but i can take a picture to settle this. frankly the miata never even came w/ a fog switch or fog lights (89-97), but i think its the ford probe uses the same exact switch so i had to get one from a ford probe to use in my miata. if we are talking about the same switch then im kinda sure they're completely different (maybe not the 99+ miatas... i have no expierience). i have the stock fogs on my FD and they are COMPLETELY for show... they do not illuminate the road at all!!! however, your car would look funny w/ really bright fogs and dim yellow headlights, so i suggest changing your bulbs to something a little whiter/briter. piaa makes good fogs too, i have some on my miata, but beware they are freakin bright and do blind other drivers, but they do help visibility @ night 100% so oh well. also, you may not be talking about fog lights, you may be talking about "driving lights" .... just check piaas websight.

What are those other two switches in the pic of the Euro FD? (I don't own an FD myself so I'm not familiar with the interior.)

@Choser

The stock European FDs had the following setup:

1. Rear Foglight switch http://www.rx-7.net/3gallery.mv?browse+318

2. Rear Heater switch
3. Headlamp washer switch

Besides this we have a switch for headlamp levelling in order to correspond European regulations. And the red lamp behind it is the same you have on US FDs (Exhaust temp warning) but with cat symbol instead of plain text.

cheers
Patrick

$50??? What dealership is this?! Lemme know! lol

I went to get the price on the switch back in early 2003, and it was $70 prepaid, since it's a special order peice. Then a few months later, the price was magically $90, now I believe it's $100+.... I got lucky cuz a friend of mine works at mazda, and he bought the part for me with his employee discount just a lil while ago for like $80...

I looked for quite some time and it was damn near impossible for me to find a junkyard w/ an FD in it...and then an FD that still has a center console left, on one that has stock fogs & switch...
