Flywheel nut. Auto to Manual coversion

Is the flywheel nut the same for the auto and manual? What size socket do I need to remove this giant nut?

Yes, I am still doing research for my auto to manual conversion.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
I wonder why it is not metric. My giant green manual doesn't say what size it is. The Mazda RX-7 Performance Handbook says 2 1/8" in one paragraph and then right next to a pic of the giant socket it says 2 1/2" so I was confused.

instead of removing the nut(2 1/8") to remove the counterweight why don't you get a light flywheel and just bolt it on(the auto weight is what they all use anyways)

I already ordered an ACT prolight flywheel that comes with the correct counter weight. I found it for 375 shipped on E-bay.

I also ordered the ACT Exteme Street clutch for 530 shipped off E-bay.

I have another question. Is the Stainless steel line offered at stores for the clutch, a replacement for the hard line that connect the clutch master and the clutch slave?

Isn't there only two lines, the rubber one from the brake reservoir to the clutch master and the hard line to the slave?

I don't have everything gathered up yet and the sketches in the manual are pretty crappy.
Thanks,

Brady

The SS line replaces the line from the brake reservoir.

the stainless line replaces the rubber line at the slave cyl.
it sounds like you have a spare counterweight to sell if the flywheel comes with one

It is metric... it's like 52 or 54 mm. But a 2 1/8" works fine, and are much easier to find.

I guess it would be a 54mm. When I do the conversion it comes out to 53.975mm.

What do you guys use to hold your flywheel still? In the manual it show some special tool that probably cost a million bucks.
In case you havn't figured it out yet, I have never changed out a clutch.
But I have installed everything else for my single turbo conversion myself.

You can use a flywheel stopper:

It's what I used (about $22).

Another option is to buy a piece of angle steel or aluminum from Home Depot, drill two holes in it to bolt it to the flywheel with the pressure plate bolts. You could also use an impact gun, if you have access to one.

I used an impact wrench and didn't need anything to keep the flywheel from spinning.

I have a impact gun, but it's a cheesy one that came with a set from Wally World. I don't know if it will work or not.

My 93 Workshop Manual only show two lines in the clutch system. The rubber one from the brake reservoir to the clutch master (which doesn't have threaded ends it uses spring type hose clamps) and the hard line that goes between the clutch master and the clutch release cylinder. I have my service manual right in front of me and I can't find a rubber line with threaded ends that could be replaced by the stainless one. I guess I am retarded. I am asking so many question because I am ordering all the new parts I can. Thanks,

Damn, what kind of impact do you have to get the 300+ ft/lbs of torque when you put everything back?

Brad,

It's the line that runs from the Brake Reservoir to the Slave Cylinder (as it's replacing the rubber line that tends to flex as it ages).

You might look into getting a hard line to replace the entire line though...

How does the stainless line attach to the reservoir? The stock rubber one attaches with clamps and the stainless braided looks like it is threaded in the pics. I want to make sure I know what you guys are talking about, since I am going to order that line from a rx-7 shop and all the other ones from the Dealer. Dont want to order the same line from both places. Thanks,

Ok, I called mazdaformance. I found out there is acually two hard lines. And the braided one runs between them. My crappy manual sketch doesn't show me two hard lines so I was confused. Thanks for trying to help me guys, ( I rode the short bus to school ).

Yes, you aren't replacing the hard lines, only the rubber line.
