Flowmasters on an FD?
Not to much flame PLEASE?!
Since I do not have the 600$ to spend on a catback. I good buddy of my dads that has been doing exhausts for a while will get me a price for full 3inch all the way through. For under 200$ (mandrel bent). He will throw in a used flow master. Will this help a bit for some restriction or is it bad for a turbo? Any other suggestions are welcomed. Not to much flame again I ask.

I've heard good things about Flowmasters, but decided to go with a MagnaFlow system. If the Flowmaster works as well as my MF, you will feel an improvement in performance and sound. In fact, the MF opened my exhaust flow so much that my FD started having excessive boost. From 10psi to 15psi. On friday I installed a MF catalytic converter on the MP and that solved the boost problem. Plus,.. it lowered the exhaust DBs alot. Good Luck.

well. . . it isnt an all out turbo loving muffler. flowmasters arent designed for the turbocar in mind. theyre more for the NA side of engine work. turbocars like no restriction.
another problem. . . that flowmaster prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooobably wont hold up to the heat of a turbo rotary. dont bet money on it anyways. might sound cool though. . . try it!!!! just keep it to a cat-back. if you go to crazy with exhaust mods w/o proper safety measures youll blow the engine.

Well right now Im running around 12 psi (re mapped ECU) safely. Thus Im wondering instead of having a midpipe which could shoot my boost through the roof, would a flowmaster alone be ok in the midpipe and have a full pipe out to the back?

Alright so f*ck it and go midpipe and throw the muffler at the end where it belongs? By the way I guesse your running a magnaflow muffler? Because I just checked the cat-back systems and its 1009$!!! These prices are f*cking ridicoulous for some dam catback. These are the times I miss putting 2 Flowmaster on my v-8s for under 200$.

You can go even cheaper than $200 if you have a welder open up your muffler, cut the baffling out, and weld it closed again. $50 max if you have a professional do it.

Holy sh*t. I do have the stuff to do it since my dad refurnished old chevys. Hmm thanks, dam I feel stuppid for not thinking of that.

A) you know it will fit
B) instant gratification
C) you know the tips stick out far enough so that it doesn't leave poop stains all over the car's ***.
Careful how much you open up your exhaust, though. Pretty soon you'll need a ported wastegate or aftermarket ESU to handle the extra pressure. I wouldn't go midpipe (or gutted cat) and catback at the same time if the above is true.

Darn, I posted a thread about FM on the FD.
I was hoping that FATMAN would take one for the team and lab rat test this one for us in longevity since much of what I have seen on FM uses for FD's are conjectures on how long it will last and so forth.
When I called FM a few weeks ago they said that if ur FM should fail do to heat they will give u a replacement.
The Delta flow is designed so that once heated properly it will created a negative pressure in the chambers.

Batman, I dont mind taing one for the team at all since its under 200$. Now that I know I will get replaced is even better, my final question is using this on a turbo application? How will it affect the car? If at all?

according to them there is some thermal dynamics that takes places when the FM heats up on the Delta flow mufflers.
U can find them new for Well under $100.00
I was thinking of the 40 or 50 series delta flow.

Alright, I get the actual muffler usually at 65 to 70$ ( dad has hook up, he has bought over 6 of them). So lets see, as long as it wont affect the turbos in other words let the heat get to them, then It should be ok.

BTW Batty I have the remapped ECU, and the Home Depot Boost Controller I need to figure out what the hell is wrong with my 2nd turbo at high RPM, buts thats in another thread.

I have run a 40 series with no problems , and its on a single turbo 93 rx7 road race car, located where the cat was. . However, the design is probably not ideal for a turbo so i plan to replace it with something different. Its still very loud.and i run a second muffler at the back. with both mufflers its 105 db.

Call me gramps!
Flowmaster has a large array of mufflers -- their Delta Race Series is probably the one that flows the best. It is supposedly able to handle "1,000HP or more," so I don't think flow *SHOULD* be a problem. It still isn't a straight-thru muffler, so there will still be some back pressure. The muffler utilizes welded plates to calm the exhaust note, so I really don't think it will have any problems with the high heat of the rotary exhaust. Anyways, if you were going with this muffler, it wouldn't be for performance reasons (as any straight-thru muffler would outflow this).
