Fear of knock

Hmm, gonna run in the 8th tonight and I'm worried that I might detonate on 15lbs with the stock intercooler. If I run race gas do you think I'd be OK for 4 or 5 passes?

P.S. I'm runnin' pretty rich at the moment.

Real easy - if you're worried you might detonate at 15psi, crank the boost down. An 1/8th mile time slip isn't worth a blown engine.

You have all of those mods and you're still running the stock IC????

Definitely pick one up. There's a couple of used ones for sale right now:

I'm a little confused with your question. You make it sound as if you've never run 15 psi before which would mean you aren't tuned at all for that psi. I would be more worried about THAT than the IC issue. If your car was tuned for 15 psi, just put some race gas in and drag away.

if you did water injection like zerobanger then you could keep the stock ic. try at your own risk though cause its not proven yet at least to me.

All I can tell you about the ic is that I ran 12psi on 93 octane for about 3-4 months never with a problem. Can't you keep track of the intake temps with the pfc? That's the way you will detonate with the stock ic if your intake temps are crazy so just check it out. Also, I got a spray bottle and filled it with a little water and the rest solid ice. When I got to the track the bottle was very cold and I sprayed that on my intercooler on the inside part that I could get to. I assume it dripped through to the rest of the fins and cooled them too. After each run I would burn my hand trying to touch the ic but 1 minute after spraying it down it was freezing to the touch. The other 7s times were getting slower and slower while mine got faster because of no heatsoaking and better performance on my launches throughout the night.

It's not just the fear of detonation that should concern you, 15psi and stock IC is working your turbos to death!

if its anyone, rynberg knows this

I wouldnt say working them to death but they are taking a beating of a lifetime bareknuckle.

hey maybe at that point it's best to just run the turbos straight to the intake with no intercooler??

My post was intended to add to rynberg's post, not question it. I apologize if it came across any other way. My "Duh" and comments were directed at the member who started this thread.
