Engine revving over 5000+ at startup after boost gauge install?

Ok, so I've sorted out all the issues I had installing the GReddy v2 boost gauge (I think) but can't test it out because of a new problem.

The engine, on startup, auto-revs over 5000 and keeps going! I've checked the throttle linkage... no kinks in it. I doubt that it's a boost leak (unless installing a sending unit somehow counts?)

I'm at a loss. I'm going to check the TPS next and see if the cruise control linkage is giving me trouble. I don't know...

Any help is appreciated.

Also, I don't think the problem is related to the AWS. It doesn't matter if I start it in first or not... it just shoots up to (now 4500rpm) and stays there. Oh, and it's spewing smoke as well. Smells like oil, which isn't surprising, given that the OP is at 120psi... grr..

Okay, another find. I'm sure it's not a boost leak, and the TPS is fine. It must be something to do with the cruise control unit. The throttle linkage is loose, but the cruise linkage is taut as hell... in search of fuses. Will post more later.

You need to remove the TB elbow and see where your butterfly plates are. At start up they should be completely closed (or as near to closed as you can tell) if anything is holding the plates the least bit open thenthis would be your problem. What all did you remove to instal a boost gauge ?

Thanks man. For whatever reason, my cruise control linkage was keeping the throttle body open. I tried disconnecting the CC, but the linkage wouldn't release. Finally, I simply disconnected the linkage and now, everything's fine.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I blew coolant and oil seals in the 5000 RPM escapades from before, so now a rebuild is days or weeks away, rather than months. I figure I'll just get the car to a rotary shop and THEY can figure out the linkage problem, replace the rear suspension bushings, rebuild the motor, find and fix the exhaust leak, etc, etc. Lucky for me, I've been keeping a stash for just this sort of thing. Oh, and I finally found out that my boost pattern is really messed up. They can handle that too.

EDIT: I didn't remove anything in the engine bay besides the cover on the nipple the sender unit connects to. On the other hand, I did have to play electrical doctor to get the gauge working, and I think I might have shorted the cruise system. I don't know. The fiasco's over for now.

Update: If anyone is having a similar problem, here was my solution:

The clip that holds the cruise linkage had been pulled out of place in our monkeying around. It was very difficult to see on fist take, being under the cold pipe. However, it seems that something else had been screwed up at the throttle control device (sitting on the driver's side wheel well) and when my car gets back from the shop, I'll see if I simply can't adjust the slack from there. I have been told that the device is most likely splined, so it's a matter of disassembly and reassembly.
