Question Engine Problem after normal drive - Any Suggestions??

I had a problem yesterday with my baby. I drove her a couple of miles and had her in the driveway idling when the exhaust note changed drastically. When I went to blip the throttle, the engine bogged down. I couldn't get it to pull up the driveway at all and it just kept dying. (it was on a hill) I let it roll back down to the base of the drive and I checked the fluids. Everything looked fine but I put some oil in it anyway. Once I did that, after about a minute, it came back to life. Does anyone know why this might be? Is that usual for an FD to do that if the oil is too low or it's sitting on a hill? BTW I'm using Castrol Synthetic and I know I shouldn't but I didn't know until after I did it. It's only been in the engine for 600 miles and I'm going to change the oil tomorrow. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I had a fairly similar problem recently, but I don't quite think mine was the same as yours..I would drive it a little while and when I would stop to park it,it would just die and would not start back up until it cooled down..It turned out I needed a rebuild, but like I said,I doubt my problem is the same..Just thought I would throw that out there.

This is the first time it did it. Also, supposedly the engine was rebuild about 5000 miles ago. I don't think that was the problem but that definately crossed my mind. Anybody else think it might be a blown engine?

It smoothed right out and gave me full power back after I added the oil.

Mine was because my seals were giving out after my car warmed up..Like I said, doesn't seem like your problem, but whenever a problem arises I always instinctly think "Oh no,please don't be my engine"..

What are the tell-tale signs of an engine going out? I'm new to the FD world and I would like to know ahead of time so I can catch it before it pushes a bunch of crap through my turbos.

You will be fine with any good synthetic oil.

Why do people say not to use synthetics?

Has anyone had something like this happen when the engine gets low on oil? It was sitting on a hill, could that possibly have something to do with it? Maybe the oil level was low and being on the hill starved the engine?

Either way it scared the **** out of me and worried me a lot.

Apparently when mazda was first testing they had an issue with synthetic oils (someone should speak up and correct if I'm wrong) so they made a blanket statement that synthetics should not be used at all. Theres about a billion threads on the subject.

How many miles on the engine? I suggested a compression test so you can be at ease about the state of your engine, and start looking at other sources if it happens again. How much oil did you have to add?

I only added a quart. I ran it afterwards and it drove great. Smooth and fluid just like always. Almost immediately after I added the oil, within 45 seconds, the idle corrected itself and gave me the power to drive up my driveway with no hesitation. It then idled fine from then on.

Sorry, it has 78k on it. The rebuild was supposedly done less thatn 5k ago. I called the mechanic in FL and he said that the rebuild was in fact done.

Kilo Racing. They also put an exhaust manifold on there that was welded open like a non-seq with the TC actuator still on there and no other conversion. I think it was an accident but it's been pissing me off for a while. Since the actuator was still connected, it took me a while to realize that the tc flapper was welded open. Lost some hair on that one.

Can't get over 3psi until I get it replaced. Won't have the time to replace for 2 more weeks but I've already got the parts.

Anybody else had a problem with them?

Jeremy
