ecu questions (auto trans)

how can you upgrade the ecu on the auto trans fd's without loosing the hold features and smooth operations of the trans ? will the power fc work or not ?some say it will ... looking for the truth.

It will work. Search there is a thread that talks about what needs to be done to keep the hold function and use the PFC.

Also the AEM ECU works as well.

To keep the HOLD function with the PFC you run it as a Piggyback w/ the stock ecu and the stock ecu sends the HOLD signal & does the "torque reduction" during upshifts (retards the timing i think) AEM's ecu does the HOLD function correctly but I don't know if they ever fully worked out the torque reduction thing

im doing a beta test on a TCU currently which provides full auto trans calibration, setup, programming, and control . this TCU device should allow you to use any aftermarket ecu and still have all the tranny functions available and more.

you really will find a wealth of information if you search. this question comes up regularly. the aem does not support the auto transmission. it will "work" in the same way that the PFC will "work". You will not get the hold function. you can wire them in parallel as mentioned, however to me it's not worth the extra effort. There are a number of piggybacks that can be made to work. PFS PMC (EFI systems), the greddy emanage, and others. Pettit may sell you a remapped ECU. I can't really recall all of the options, but a search will turn these up in short order.

This is not quite true, according to my discussions w/ AEM their unit DOES interact correctly w/ the trans ecu to maintain the HOLD function - however it (at the time) was not programed to do the Torque Reduction function of the stock ecu - The torque reduction serves to smooth the upshifts and may not be necessary. I was actually on my way down to AEM to have them use my fd to test their ecu and decide how important the torque reduction is/was the day my apex seal blew causing the cancelation of that test session. I do not know if they have found another Auto FD to test with since. ( that was in nov 02)

i would let them use my fd for testing. i am in california. don't know if they have a test center close to my home. my fd spends most of the time in the garage and is in great condition perfect for testing no time restraints. if you have a contact let me know.
