Dynomax, Borla, Magnaflow?
I just drove my FD for the first time, and the Apex-N1 is just way too loud for my taste, and my neigbor's taste!
I thought my first gen rx7 was loud, and it was but this is much louder! I want to put a good muffler in my mp to quiet it down as much as I can, will have to take off the mp for the muffler shop for them to work on it (since its catless), so I can't fab it up while on the car.
Any reccomendations on the biggest, best sounding one that will fit and last?

While I wouldn't say the build quality on the rx7store resonated midpipe (with the Magnaflow) is as good as say, the Bonez from rx7.com, it is a good piece and works great. If you really want to quiet things down though, you'll have to ditch that N1 garbage and get something with a real muffler in it (Racing Beat).

The Pettit pipe actually uses a resonator instead of a muffler. I would not use this solution. I do not have personal experience with the Bones res midpipe (I was actually referring to other Bonez pieces like their downpipe and hi-flow cat), but it looks a lot like the Pettit one.
Most of the sound quality is determined by the cat-back exhaust anyway. My rx7store res midpipe is actually quieter in normal driving conditions than my Bonez hi-flow cat!

I also agree with the use of the Magnaflow muffler in the midpipe. There is no flow penalty associated with this and no reason not to use it, unless you want it loud.
As I pointed out in another thread, you can also put a resonator after the midpipe and in front of the main muffler for a very significant improvement. I put a Magnaflow magnapack on mine, ahead of the PFS cat back. This addition alone killed most of the drone inside the car.

What are the dimensions on the 'magnapack,' mainly can diameter and length. I looked on magnaflow's site and didn't see any references to such a product.

Rich,
If I recall correctly, it is 5" in diameter (3" in/out) and 16" in length. I don't know if these are in their online catalog as I ordered it through a local muffler shop. It is definitely a Magnaflow product, and it's all stainless--I'll see if I can find the part #.

Racecar - Formula 2000
Droning Improvement
I recently welded a 3" ID, 4" OD Dynomax bullet muffler (WLK-24222 part number at Summit Racing) into my old 3" PF catback exhaust system between the stock cat and the rear PF muffler. The PF exhaust had been droning too much on the freeway and annoying me. The added muffler fit very well between the aluminum body cross brace and the diff.
This slightly improved the exhaust tone (slightly deeper and less choppy), made it a tiny bit less loud, and resulted in a major droning reduction. It's now perfectly acceptable on the freeway.

I would go with Magnaflow, but i don't have experience with the other two.
Here is a short clip of my magnaflow exhaust and a 1/2 bridge: http://www.indyhp.com/vids/zinx-halfbridge_starting.wmv

i switched my midpipe from a Pettit resonated to a Borla 40944 3 inch straight thru oval SS i run a RB catback and love the combo. anything to keep from talking to those people in blue uniforms. they might want to look under the hood and things could go downhill rapidly.
