Unhappy CAst Iron welding cracks on TT manifold? Can manifold be purchased seperately?

I talked to an engine builder and he said it could be done but it won't last and may even produce new cracks quicker. My turbos are in excellent shape, so I don't want to buy a new set. Too bad Inconel is way too expensive.

Can the manifold be purchased seperately?
...does anyone have a part #?

Has anyone had their OEM or cast iron manifold welded?
...please post experience if "yes".

^ Sweet, but that looks like an exhaust manifold and "not" the turbo manifold.

OK, after some knudging I got the OEM '93-'96 part # N3A1-13-450A and it can be purchased from Racing Beat and/or Mazdatrix.

Can anyone "please" share the part # for the '99+ JDM 280PS version? ...anybody ...anyone?

Buy new is my advice, because in order to make a good weld on cast iron, you would need to heat it, and i mean heat it, like a kiln kind of heat,

oh I weld for fun, thats how I know.

^ ok, cool
If I had to buy the whole turbo unit, I woulda went the welding route instead. My money tree ran out of leaves.

Can anyone verify this part # n3a7-13-450c is for the '99+ JDM 280ps version? ...someone that has access to the mazdacomp parts catalog?

Don't scratch your head at me.. you weren't terribly specific in your original post..

If you're speaking of the cast iron section that the two exhaust housings bolt up to, I'd recommend calling someone like BNR or someone else who goes through a lot of turbos and pick up a good used one. Shouldn't cost you more than $50.

And the only difference between the 280HP turbos and the 255HP turbos are the abbraidable compressor housings. The piece that you're looking for should be exactly the same on both.

I agree...I think you're better off buying a good used one. I know thats gonna cost an arm and a leg to buy new and you said that money tree is not doing so well. How bad are the cracks in yours anyway? I've seen like 10 sets and I don't think I've seen one with no cracks at all in it. My stockers were cracked pretty badly and still worked fine.

"lol", I thought I was specific. zoink! narf!

My cracks go all the way through from one side to the other. Used ones will have cracks as well, just not as bad. Since i'm going to pay for heat coating, i'd rather get the new ones (have a hookup ...Sshh!).

No, I beleive the 280ps manifold is bored out and is the 3rd difference. 2nd being gold colored silinoids and 1st being the abraisable seals. I thought that's what Jason told me. ...yo, JT-Imports?

Here is a good site for the 99 spec changes to the car. Besides the abraidable seals, they also changed the wheels.

The turbos now have an abradeable seal. The clearance between the compressor wheel and housing is zero. The compressor wheel rubs against the snail all the time. The compressor wheel diameters have been reduced from 51mm to 50mm so they will spool up quicker (less lag).

It doesn't mention the manifold being bored out.

OK, spoke with Mazda Motorsports and was told the part #'s are the same on the Type-R and 250ps versions. Some Mazdaspeed stuff they can get and some they can't. All the stuff comes from Japan so he can't confirm there being a seperate US Mazdaspeed company. '99+ wing end peices are sold seperately, so if you want to purchase the Odula or Mazdaspeed carbon centers you can also only buy the ends. Oh, and we can no longer purchase race and Mazdaspeed stuff without a racing membership (used to be limited to stock)!

OK, this sucks asstronaughts!
I triple checked the part # before I dropped $600 on a special order and it's for the exhaust manifold and not the turbo manifold sandwhiched in between the twins in the turbo assembly. You have to buy the whole friggen turbo assembly unit! WTF! F*that! B*SHip Ack damn freekin single turbo time...turbo time!!!
