Ok to keep it as simple as possible, no it doesnt.
Commuter cars should be easy to drive, roomy, worry free, and have excellent gas milage. Guess what, the FD is none of those things. Search for terms like daily driver, ppl have chimed in plenty of times about this.
I agree with RE, I comute with my FD -- clocking 10k just this evening after 8 glorious months. Granted I loved my Tbird and it would of been a great daily the FD is so much fun.
IMO, no. It's 10 to 12 yrs old, not fuel efficient, only has two seats, no luggage room, difficult to drive in bad weather or slick roads, and is relatively high maintenance and expensive to insure. In general, it was never intended as a commuter. If your worried and you don't even own one yet, you should probably pass and wait until you can afford both a DD and the FD.
i can most definitely be a commuter car, as long as you don't object to spending some money up front and not carrying around too much luggage but personally, i think its worth it, simply because of the performance:cost ratio regarding the FD. and as max said...you won't have to worry about those damn people asking for rides all day
Yea, I drove mine 140K + miles as a daily driver over about 10 years with little difficulty and guess what--I actually got to use and enjoy my car. Much more so than the purpose built, barely streetable (race) cars I have owned.
PS: You can drive it hard, I always have, and it will last--just don't be stupid.
Sure they can, as long as you don't mind getting 12mpg. And personally, living with the traffic here in Seattle, I'd want an automatic for my commute...and who wants an automatic sports car?
But if you're heart set on it, then you *can* do it, I just don't reccomend it.
I commute on my FD to work.
Gas milage, roomy, worry free and etc is sacraficed for one thing.
"I actually enjoy driving to work"
It just depends on you.
well i know reliability blah blah blah but is it really that bad if i were to use it as a daily cuz maybe pretty soon i might possibly get an FD and my mom said she'd help me out but i also thing she'd take my old car away which i was intending as a daily driver but im so giddy to get the FD would it be a bad idea to have it be a beater?
Although I used mine as a daily driver for over 8 years, I wouldn't recommend it. If you have access to another car for daily use, use that car. FD Rx7 is not intended for basic transportation. It's a waste of the car's performance--especially if your route to work is mundane.
IMO, if you get one in great condition and treat it well, it can. Gas milage suck around town but GREAT on the open road. I went 400 miles + on a tank of gas while driving to CA. Though, I do drive a civic to work and play with the FD.

I think you should learn how to speak in sentences, and make use of periods, before you even think of buying an FD. Also, if you are going to be cutting it close with affordability of this car, it is definately not for you.

I'm driving my single turbo FD almost daily(8000 miles since july) so it can be done if you do your homework and concentrate on reliability first.
If you can afford it you will want a cheap&reliable car as a beater that you don't care about scratches/dents etc...

counterpoints for me anyhow I drive a company vehicle for commute but every 7 has been my daily as in i will and do drive them every day like taking a dog for a walk. Just getting in it makes me smile.
age adds character.
I live in mn global warming is awesome, burn that fuel! No but budget out your gas expenditure for the week two weeks whatever. If I must pay the price I pay for gas then it best be spent on something I like most of all, driving rex.
If you get one person to carpool with you splitting gas gets you ahead of the gas issue. more than one carpool person and its a circus getting to work anyhow.
All of the required maintenance is standard for any car. we premix snowmobiles boats lawnmowers snowblowers and many other things. its as simple as know your car.
