Hey im 16 and i only know how to do body work. Ive been looking into getting an RX7 FD for some time now and i am wondering if it is possible to buy a nice FD without giving up my life for repairs and rebuilds etc. Heres a link to an FD ive been looking at. Does this car look clean enough to be a decent daily driver? i dont have too much time for major problems. Also, the owners name if evan from holmdel NJ, does anyone recognize this car?

This car is fast, and when you drive by people they will turn their heads.

Perhaps hes a member, i dunno. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. My dad has had a few RX7s before, but being a doctor, he doesnt have much time to help me, that and im going off to college in a year.

No. At age 16, you cannot handle it. Get something slow and reliable. Start thinking about an FD after you finish (graduate) college.

With those modifications and you being 16, there is not a chance that will be a reliable daily driver.

That car has a mssive single turbo. Itll be fun until the engine goes and the engine WILL go sooner then if you get a car with the stock or 99 twins. Stick with a slightly modded FD and twins for now if you're 16.

ok. Then what would you suggest, an RX8 or maybe a clean stock RX7? ive also been looking at some GTOs and Subaru Legacy GTs. *shrug* thanks for all the help

Go for it, dude. Pedal to the metal. Don't let these spoilsports bring you down. If you don't make mistakes, how are you ever going to learn? That's what I say. Get to know what 160 mph feels like. You haven't lived until you've driven an FD in the wet.

ok so ive been snooping around and i think ive found the most clead FD ever. it was driven by a 65 year old man with no mods on it (i think i see an exhaust) but thats what the owner claims. 50k miles on it, would this mean an engine swap is due? i dont know how hard it was driven.

Go for it! Don't let the sissies on this Forum tell you what to do. Your Dad's busy down at the hospital. Put his money to work. Just make sure you install a bitchin' stereo in your FD so you can't hear the screams of your passenger (s). (Yeah, you can fit a chick on that package shelf behind the seats if she's small enough.
No seat belt, but what the hey.)

If you want a reliable FD get a close to stock or lightly modded one. I bought my fd when i was 17 and besides from a week here and there in the shop the car has been good to me. That car does have exhaust on it. If you want an fd get one just not a 400hp+ fd.

Don't listen to efranklin. More horsepower= More fun.

Just tell Dr. Dad the power will help you manuever to avoid accidents. He's too busy to pay much attention anyway.

yeah. but he wont spot me for parts/repairs etc. so i have to pay out of my own pocket for stuff like that. i think efranklin is right, ive been looking at some slightly modded FDs with about 50k miles on them, seems just about right. i just have to convince the parents that this car is better than my 06 184 hp equinox. Pops motivation was "the slower you go, the better" and its killing me

Its true but it also means its less reliable.. Also it is alot of fun to get your car to that point not just buy an already highly modified car.

I am using an FD as my daily driver right now. I drive 5000 kilometers a month for work on average. so I am doing 2 oil changes a month. When i bought mine i put 2k into reliablity mods (mostly gauges) she runs beautifully the thing to remember is its a powerful sports car so it is going to cost more and it won't be practical. If you have snow where you live make sure you have a winter car. if you love the car it will be worth it. i think thats the bottum line.

One word of advice dont buy premodded. when he said i never raced is bullshit if it has that kinda power. and with that much power gas will kill you before the engine breaks.

Pops is a wet blanket. Parents are always about "responsibility" never about FUN.

efranklin is way too cautious and his car has been in the shop a lot anyway trying to get tuned right, so he hasn't had time to experience the full raw rush of horsepower.

More horsepower= More fun.

And as you said, people will turn their heads when you drive by in your awesome FD. After that, nothing else matters.

My car is out of the shop and in perfect condition im about to do a non-sequential job, get a fmic tune and some more boost... i could have bought a 400hp fd but id rather get there myself... ive driven highly modded evos and wrxs i know the feeling of POWER and its fun as hell trust me.

If you want reliable buy a slightly modded fd, and if thats not enough for you mod it.. simple as that.

i think im just gonna buy a stock one and tune it myself. nothing big, i know hp=fun but i really dont want more that 400 hp. this thread has changed my mind, thanks for everything, ill keep you guys updated on my situation.

hey, didnt we go over all this in that thread about how 16 year olds shouldnt own 7's?? im not saying you should go for it, hell if i had that kinda dough sitting round for my first car then ide jump at it too... but i distinctly remeber that thread getting up to like 400 posts as to why ppl should be a certain age before they own high preformance cars

Search for cars for sale on this forum. Its down at the bottom. You can find better deals here than the 2 you posted up. Also I would recomend a near stock car. Or a ar with the reliabilty mods done. There are even a few really low milage (like 30k or less) for sale right now.
