ARGH! Smoke and oil leak around the turbos :(

So i'm late for work, speeding, the turbo's are working hard (but not overboosting 10psi). I get to work and smoke pours out of my engine bay comming from around the turbo's. I look under the car and oil is leaking in droplets. ****!

I stopped it. Checked the oil level and it was good. Then i restarted it for 10 mins and it runs fine with no leaking oil (it still smells of oil though). Do you think it's safe to drive home? I have a 50 mile drive back

When i get home (at 10am ) and tear off the intake hoses what should i look for? Are there common area's that oil leaks occur around the turbos?

Thanks!
Clayton T.

Lightbulb damn

I THINK the seals went out on turbo's. Mine used to leak from the intake pipings to the turbo's, but the seals are inside offcourse. Even though the seals are worn out, they seal when it warmed up. Mine use to blow out smoke when i first start it, then stop durning when it's warmed up and then if i dog the car alittle it blows out blue smoke. I drove the car like this for a while, so you MIGHT be able to drive it.

If it were an internal leak wouldn't it be coming only out the exhaust and sometimes back into the intake tract?

I'd check those thick oil send/return lines from underneath the passenger side of the car. (The ones with 4-6 metal rings around them.) Just my 2 cents, you might be able to spot a visible leak.

if the oil is getting on the exhaust manifold it could catch fire.

Hey, just bringing this back up for a sec.

My FD is going to be down for awhile. It runs but the oil leak is getting worse and the idle is surging between 500-700 when stopped. There's two spots the oil is leaking from:

1) Around the turbo's; i haven't seen the leak from the top but i can see where the oil is leaking on the ground.

2) Below the UIM. I can see the vaccum lines below the UIM are covered in oil.

Here's the question-------> What should i look for below the UIM? This will be my first time taking it apart and i just want a idea of what to look for under there.

Thanks,
Clayton

I would start by checking around the oil return lines. The gaskets can an do fail over time causing oil leaks.

I would check the plastic OMP lines to see if one is cracked.
