Alternative to the DIN cubby pocket

Heya peeps,

I always wanted to replace my Bose radio with the FD DIN pockets. The used ones sell on here for $50 sometimes...

Found this Mazda part number B02A-66-9M0A

It fits perfectly and costs around $10-12 brand new!

I even prefer this one over the standard one as it has a small lip to prevent stuff sliding out. It will go nicely with my R1 DIN pocket (at least I think the R1 had the hinged close-able DIN pocket, or was it the base? hmmm )

haha well I realized that I don't listen to much music while I'm in the FD...not sure if this is related to my loud exhaust or not and I'm always looking for more storage places to put my wallet, phone, and all the other crap I carry with me...

My lady would not approve of just hearing exhaust noise the entire time I'm driving.

I hear they're a difficult fit with the shifter location. But, fortune favors the bold! Try it and report back!
Lack of cupholder is still my #1 complaint with FD's

Should have stated "my 94 Touring..." Wonder if it was an option, which doesn't make sense though. Mine was a late model '94 so it could have been a mid-model change

Tourings had the Bose sound system and had a double-stack stereo with a tape deck and CD player. Base and R packages had the little pocket.

As far as I know, if the car came with a pocket, it was the slowly opening folding door.

Tells you how old these cars are that it came standard with a tape deck .

So did my 94 touring

How is the finish on this pocket? Is it textured like the 94 or smooth like the 93? Can't quite tell from the photo. This is a great find!

I'm away from my garage atm...but as you can see on the photo there is a slight mismatch from my 93 finish and this DIN pocket. To me personally its not that noticable, and I might just use it as it.

I can get some better pics when I get back home.

I bought one of these, and it doesn't stay in there very well. I like the R1 din pocket (with door) much better.

The pocket with the door you can still get new. Well I got mine last year from Japanparts.com. I don't think it's been discontinued yet. I actually chopped the back end off mine and will use the compartment to house a mini led indicator panel like the water meth injection etc. Keep it stealth and OEM like.

I like my single DIN head unit and Defi DIN gauges which I use for water temp, oil temp and oil pressure. Looks cleaner in the center rather than having several gauges on top of my dash board or on the A pillar.

The din pocket I purchased was this part number: FD01-66-9M0D.
And the texture isn't smooth. It has the same finish as the newer rx7's.

Always liked those, are they design for RHD driver? IIRC the gauges are slightly on angle?
