Have just removed air pump from my FD with the help of pulley kit. Seems to struggle under boost now as if it wants to choke out. Its a newly rebuilt engine with less then 1 mile since rebuild. Is this just settlin in or have i missed something obvious? Any help appreciated guys. Thanks

Well for one thing, you shouldn't even be trying to really hit boost on a brand new engine!

Secondly, why not ask the rebuilder first, since you presumably paid him a significant chunk of change to do the work.

Removing the air pump will frequently result in poor idle quality on the stock ecu, but shouldn't effect the car under boost.

funny you say that... i am having the exact same problem... did you check you got spark to the leading, coils/lead wires all ok... check TPS also... and my engine has less then 1 mile... i will be working/diagnosis on Saturday...will see what i come up with...

Yeah why are you trying to build boost with that low of miles i think were gonna here a new engine coming in soon. I would also have to agree that i would ask the instaler about what he did.

On a newly rebuilt and installed motor, it could be all kinds of things besides the air pump. Did the car run OK before you removed it?


With such few miles on the engine, I would disconnect one of your intercooler couplers so that your new seals aren't seeing any boost. Check with your builder to see what they advise.

Sorry but I think that is terrible advice. There is nothing wrong with hitting a few psi on the primary while just normally driving around on a new engine. Pulling a coupler = the engine is sucking unfiltered air. I have a pretty strong opinion about which situation I think is more dangerous to a new motor.
