4.30 gears. Are they worth the money?

How much do they improve acceleration? Are they worth the 500 bucks plus? I think it cost at least 150 to have these installed. I think it is to much money for trial & error so I don't think I would install them myself. How much will it improve ETs? Thanks,

Brady Mahoney

Don't worry, I am trading with you.
I am just doin research. Do you have the diff off the car yet? I havn't been on line much, we have a little problem with SBC at my house. They forgot to tell me I could only spend 2000 hours on the internet. I am at a friends house right now. But I am fixing to get Satellite internet at the house.

4.3 gears

For less than a grand you will get acceleration improvement equal to probably $2000-3000 in engine mods. This assumes you upgrade your tires to handle the additional starting forces. You are right about not installing the gear set yourself. If you do not get the right contact pattern between the ring and pinion gears, you will have excessive wear and probably end up doing the whole thing over in a year. Only bad thing I notice since I changed is that the gas gauge seems to go down faster. Must be lead in my foot.

I agree. But actually, if the install is not done correctly, the gears will start whining (pretty loud) and probably won't last but a month, depending on mileage run, before excessive wear down occurs and whining become unbearable.

BTW,...what's your sustained rpm at 65mph with the 4.30s??
