NJ The ONLY 2003 FD3s in USA

Hey all, Just was curious to see how much would the price of a 2003 RHD FD3S Type R Bathurst would sell for in the USA with only 39k kilometers (24k miles). The car is unmolested and in immaculate condition. It is the 2nd to last FD ever built and is is only 1 of 15 built in 2003. Since the car is rare and this model isn't available in the USA, I would like to know what other would sell/pay for it. It's not for sell, just curious to hear others opinion on the topic. The car has been inspected and cleared for exporting yesterday and is getting delivered to the port within the next several hours. I'm considering keeping it stock for a few years before I make any major changes. Any and everyones feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

2003? According to the Americans you cannot import this car over there. Canada however, all is welcome

It's a grey market car, and it holds niche value. Soo maybe $30k to the right guy? Or like $15k to the wrong guy.

Just like in America they can't import r34 GTR's over here and there is a company call Jap Starz in Philly that have imported several r34 and has them legalized on the streets. look up their instagram. @Japstarz

Wicked car and rare for sure (I assume to mean this has a 2003 build date?)... I though the Bathurst was only 2000/2001 with production stopping then restarting for the Spirit-R in 2002.

Anyhow, search the classifieds for JDM and "1999" models. I recall seeing some for sale in South Florida. Maybe that will help you.

Thanks Narfle and I know its based on the buyer and what they deem the worth of the car is due to their understanding of it. And wouldn't any knucklehead wish to get something so clean for 15k. I know I would.

Thanks Matt,I actually had a second importer research the care as well and it was produced in late 2002 and sold as a 2003 like how most cars are built the year prior. I know the Spirit R's were built in 01-02 also but where the cars information came up from Mazda Japan, it was Bathurst Type R model.

Well since you mentioned it...no. Aside from the steering wheel being on the silly side for our roads and being really awkward at a toll booth, bank or fast-food drive thru, I'm not into RHD cars for all that JDM awesomeness. Besides it's actually not even gray-market, it's contraband. Although unlikely it can be seized by the Feds without compensation. And they won't care about it's rarity.

Hi Jim,

I really appreciate your comments and really don't give AF. The steering wheel one the right side, cool but I can care less for. Toll booths, banks or Fast-food comment, who really gives AF when the vehicle will be a show car anyway. "Contraband," you sound scared of illegal things. Where I'm from in NJ illegal things happen every day so it's nothing new to me. So all your points really don't add up in my eyes.

i'm 27 yrs old with two companies making plenty of money. When I first considered this car, it wasn't to be a daily driven car. **** I can wait until 2028 to drive it on the road because driving it wasn't my intentions anyway. Like i mentioned before I'm collecting this car and me guessing you don't have $34k to purchase a vehicle you don't get to drive often . Everyone's situation is different and I'm not here to bash you with my income. But anyway I just wanted people's opinion on price point. Because I know my opinion of it's value and thats why I purchased it.

Oh yea and since you mentioned all your points about RHD cars being corny(pretty sure you can't get it) I am currently saving for a R34 GTR V Spec as well( I guess thats corny also). I don't do the internet **** by posing really when it comes to bragging about what I have. People see me in reality with my last two FD's so negative comments from internet trolls don't bother me. Thats the reason why I wasn't really into the forum wave in the past.

Good luck with your boring FD btw. I doubt it will last anyway.

Congrats on a cool purchase.

I will also echo the statement of caution with the car. The FEDS CAN and frequently DO seize and CRUSH cars like this that do not "belong" in the states.

On another forum I am a member of, the FEDS recently crush a pile of MINIs and Land Rover Defenders that were seized.

We only mention this too you as it would be a shame to see that money just thrown away if the above happens.

Thanks Andre, thought the abbriveation would of lessened the blow than writing it out fully. No problem, I will reframe from make future responses appropriate.

Hopefully the car makes the trip safely! It looks super nice.

I was providing the link so you can see the common meaning of "AF".
Your use of the abbreviation is grammatically incorrect. It stands for "AS f---", not "A f---".

Correct example:

"Your new rx7 is going to be nice AF."

Incorrect usage:

"Nobody gives AF about your new rx7."

For a collection this is bad AF (how'd I do?)...

But honestly if that's what it's for - hold out for a Spirit-R. OR find an RZ.

The Bathurst is cool - but doesn't quite have the name recognition of a Spirit-R or RZ (often hailed as the holy grail of FDs).

That said - it's worth every penny of $34K USD.

Thanks Andre for clearing it up for me. Just got off the phone with the contact with Car Shop Glow in japan and he let me know he will contact the shop to see what the worst case scenario is if it doesn't get released from customs to get delivered to my house. So if it doesn't, it will go back to Japan and I'll get my money back and have to settle for a NSX LOL.

Hey Matt, I was looking for a Spirit R but didn't see too many that were in great condition or that wasn't already abused in Japan. And most of the FD's I see in the USA for sale have way too much mileage and weren't in such great condition. So I'll have to settle for a Type R Bathurst Limited Edition

It's a sweet ride no doubt. But what's the rush? If it's for a collection, you can wait until the *right* one comes up... and they do!

Make sure you watch Australia/New Zealand as well. Lots of nice ones down there too!

It's cool as a collector car in hopes that its value goes up eventually. I think what SGT Blue was getting at though is that you're not going to be able to put a realistic value on it in the US market. Too many variables and a lot of loop holes to get tags/title for it here so I'd say there's a very limited market for it. There's a sucker out there for everything though so I'm sure with enough time you could make money on it to someone in the show-car crowd.

You really should just get an NSX, they have a wonderful community that would love to have you.
